    B pillar module

The new part was £258.98 plus VAT. My labour charges included diagnostic costs to trace the problem. Fitting the new part is straightforward and the labour charges should not be much. I know that fitting is easy because I took the old one out to check its condition.

I have just had a new one fitted. The BMW specialist said that a used one cannot be programmed to the car.

    Roof Hall effect sensors

You do not need to remove the roof completely. You need to remove the securing nuts and bolts so that you can lift the roof a couple of inches to give yourself access to the sensor. Youtube has videos showing how to remove the roof. They also show the positions of the securing nuts and bolts.

    Roof Hall effect sensors

Colb. I tried a magnetic pick up tool with the roof fully down and with it lifted a couple of inches. No luck. Yes. It does look like item 36. Thank you. I was misled by the word "switch". ph001. The tab is a few millimetres thick. It is not a moving part and should not break. I had done no...

    Roof Hall effect sensors

After I had dropped the screw I was trying to find another screw to fit. I also dropped that into the B pillar. If I get a rattle while driving it will be something inside the B pillar! There is just no room to work on the lower sensor. To help anyone else working on it I suggest you undo all...

Patience is essential if you are going to maintain your own car. Not paying garage labour charges is also a good incentive.

    Roof Hall effect sensors

The lower sensor had broken away from its plastic mounting piece. I loosened the screw holding the mounting piece and the mounting piece dropped into the depths of the B pillar. Wasted an hour with a torch trying to see it. Using the upper sensor as a guide to its size I cut a piece of plastic...

    Roof Hall effect sensors

I searched for "convertible top position implausible" but the search gave no results. I searched "roof hall sensors" which gave some results but no pictures or diagrams.

    Roof Hall effect sensors

The roof can be opened and closed manually but not electrically. Live data shows "convertible top position implausible". I have looked at the 2 Hall effect sensors near the hinge on the passenger side, and one of them is not fixed to anything. Does anyone have a photo or diagram showing where...

    Seat removal

If you have to remove a seat, either (1) lower the roof if the weather is OK, or (2) take off the headrest first. Guess who did neither! I have found that it takes only the slightest touch of the headrest onto the interior mirror to crack the windscreen. Oh, and don't forget to disconnect the...

    Air bag light

I bought a Creator but it did not give me any further info. The airbag plug inside the door looks secure. After a number of sessions deleting codes I am left with one: 987B SBSL: "Coding, firing circuit belt tensioner, rear left, at variance." I have obtained and fitted a used tensioner but I...

    Air bag light

Armscarf. Thank you for the suggestions. The car is a 2003 model with the 2.5 engine. I am in Lancashire so not really close to the Midlands. I have ordered a Creator 310+ so I will see if I can get any more info from the nearside B pillar and satellite. javis20. Thank you for the info. The...

    Air bag light

During the lockdown the car was hardly used and the battery went flat a few times. The battery is now fully charged but I can't get rid of the airbag warning light. I have tried disconnecting and re-connecting the battery without success. My Foxwell NT510 scanner shows a fault code 93BB : No...
