Yes, take a door latch, and get an original BMW Bowden cable, not A knock off.

The cable isn't that expensive so swap it anyway: I found a handle in my body colour on eBay for £30 so keep an eye out

This trim piece is likely the cause: the plastic hoops that the clips holding it in place stretch and the roof doesn't clear it when it closes. It'll only get worse. Remove it or replace it if you can't take it off and fix it so it sits flush.
