You're right legin, all the battery Stockists list the longer size of 353mm which won't fit.
The clamp mount is integral to the whole compartment so cannot be moved and sits proud

I'm Guessing the adapter for the clamp size is the smaller batteries?

Well as they are basically new wheels ( have the original tyres on) I had faith in them being all good.
I reckon the chips were made by him handling them badly.
