    Preventative maintenance

I've made it home with - a broken throttle cable, using the manual choke and conservation of momentum - a broken clutch cable using precise rev matching for clutch-less gear changes (luckily I'd honed the skill earlier in someone else's car), and avoiding stopping at all costs. Pulling away was...

    Preventative maintenance

I also have a couple of used coil packs that live in the boot. The only recent failures I've had are the cooling fan motor and water pump. I bought a new expansion tank when I started to lose coolant, but I haven't fitted it since the system maintains pressure now the new pump has been fitted...

    Members gone but not forgotten

Just to add, there’s a lot to be said for the seemingly vacuous teeshirts and bumper stickers stating slogans like, “One life, live it”! When I was 18, I read a Stephen King short story entitled “My Pretty Pony”. It’s been a long time and I’ve not read it again as an adult, but the message...

    Members gone but not forgotten

From what I’ve read, the key to appreciating time as it passes is having new experiences. Routine and repetition reduces the number of new memories and novel neuronal connections that are formed. Time seems to pass in large swathes. When you are young, every day brings a previously unmet concept...

What did you do to your Z4M today?

I’m still using the OEM clutch and flywheel. Due to the change in height at which the clutch disengages, I suspect the clutch is nearing the end of its life (and/or the slave cylinder is failing). Ideally, I’ll fit a lightweight flywheel when I replace the clutch, so it will be good to have your...

I paid 798 AUD including GST (levied at 10%). That is almost exactly the same as the price shown in your screenshot, assuming VAT is 20%.

If you follow the realoem “Part 11517838135 was found on the following vehicles:” tree to its final conclusion, the E36 applications are E36/7 and E36/8 Z3M S54 roadster and coupe.

There are two different iterations of water pump used in all of the S54 applications - one for the E46 and the other for the Z4M and Z3M. The former has a longer shaft and an extra hole in the body (which is what she said), the latter is a choad without the hole.

BMW Z4M S54 - slight hesitation/stutter when you press the accelerator from idle.

On 13th July 2012, I said this in the other thread: Fourteen years later, I think Andy summarises my experience exactly : I always drive mine with the sports button pressed because it reduces the dead spot at the beginning of the throttle pedal travel. The occasions where I’ve forgotten seem...
