Thanks @enuff_zed always happy to help online if anyone needs it, for any one local to me I am in Basingstoke, Hampshire (UK) so can always try to help in person too
We are fixed! big thanks to you @RobbiZ4 appreciate all your help in getting the roof back fully working.
Now this is a lengthy write up, but hopefully someone else will find this useful one day. I am very much a home mechanic so have broken this down into things I used, and parts I replaced...
I may just have found my problem, or certainly a contributing problem! There are the two microswitches that are both sides of the car inside the main hinges/arm for the roof mechanism on both the drivers and passenger side, it appears there is meant to be a little spring that clips into the...
I've logged a side by side of the live data, I've already replaced the hall sensor in position HS-2, I'll also replace the HS-1 position for completeness
sorry bit confused the three sensors I was reading are not the three sensors that relate to the rear end module A696 CTM error?
I took pictures of all the live data for each sensor/switch but assumed those three were the ones that relate to the rear end module, guess that isn't the case
Just managed to test things out whilst the rain stopped, I've tried the pins both ways coming from the new hall sensor, this will likely make more sense to you than me, but here are the test results from the foxwell on both configs...( I assume one is correct and one isn't, I think the first pic...
@RobbiZ4
Here are some pics of the removed Hall Sensor:
In terms of what sensor I've removed and replaced it was the one that sits closest to the end of the Ram that sits closest to the front of the car see the pic below, I have only joined the wires inline, waiting for a new connector kit...
I am back on this roof problem since my last post I have
1. Bought a Foxwell Elite 510 Scanner
2. Replaced the battery (it was the original battery from 2010)
3. Replaced both Salmon relays (part bought from BMW)
4. Replaced the Hall Sensor relating to error A696 (HS-2) in the pic earlier in...
Posted here 3 weeks about a Z4 I was looking to get for my other half, what feels like a lot longer finally have the work done after buying it - runs like a charm now with no oily whiffs.
4x alloys swapped
Rear springs replaced
1x wheel rear arch liner replaced
Boot mechanism replaced
Rocker...
Oh one more thing @Elliotharker1998 there is an extra little torx screw that is directly behind the BMW badge, you need to loosen that out to pop the mechanism off or it'll fight you.
I used Marshals BMW in Hook, Hampshire..not sure where you are? But should find most dealers are a similar price..Sytner Stevenage are pretty good too and deliver
I did it myself, its very very easy about 15 trim clips to remove, 6 black bolts (3 each side) on and about 6 wire connecotors on the unit itself..its a sub 20 mins job
Life is made alot easier one of these
