How many of your old cars are still alive?

You know me.. its a bit anal but here we go

I've been driving 11 years, in that time I've owned 7 cars on which 5 are still actively on the road.

The 2 that have no tax or mot details according to the dvla are:

1995 BMW 320i SE 4 dr
2001 BMW 316Ti Compact

Which is very surprising as my old

1994 Nissan Micra
1992 Volkswagen Scirocco
1988 BMW 635Csi Auto

Are all still going!

How many of yours still are? I realise those of you that have been driving for years may not recall all your old plates.. being me I have a spreadsheet

My first car which is now only 12 years old is still going strong. I see it as it lives along the road from me and it still looks as good as the day I sold it at 6 and a half years old.

However I've discovered that my Dads first 5 series, which was a J Reg and BMW bought back after it had 14 gearboxes fitted is still going strong. Not sure where but it's taxed and on the road.

Of the 8 cars I've owned in the nearly 8 years of having my license, only 2 of them still survive!

Citroen ZX 1.9D Advantage: Scrapped
106 1.5XND - Scrapped
306 Dturbo - Sold by me, then Broken for parts by the new owner a year after
306 GTi6 Number 1 - Written off sadly by me! :(
306 GTi6 Number 2- Written off by the owner after me
Renaultsport Megane R26 - Written off by an inconsiderate AMG driver who decided to rear-end me at the NSL :(
106 XND - Really cheap rotten stop-gap - still going; awaiting my youngest brother to return from Bolivia to use it as his first car.
Z4 - Current!

It makes for rather sad reading my car history. I loved the Gti6's; really great fun they were.

My old Mk2 is still going strong after 11 years of ownership the only time it broke down was due to a snapped clutch cable...what a trooper. Oh and it is now up for sale.8VGTi-1990_zps4d9653ed.jpg

Here's my list;
1995 Fiat Punto- Died in 2006 (sold in 2003)
2001 Fiat Punto- Died in 2011(sold in 2004)
2003 Renault Megane- Died 2011 (sold in 2007)
2006 Vauxhall Astra- She lives!! (Just passed an MOT too!) (sold in 2009)
2006 Honda Civic- Exported to Malta when I sold it. Prob alive but battered and dusty! (Sold in 2011)
2003 BMW Z4- Alive! Was on Autotrader a few months ago, was tempted to buy it back! (Sold in 2012)
2012 Astra GTC- Alive! (Sold in 2013)
2007 Audi TT- Alive! (Sold in 2013)
2010 Alfa Giulietta- Alive (surprisingly, was falling to bits lol)! (Sold in 2014)
2006 BMW Z4- Alive when I saw it 15 mins ago lol

Quite liked playing this game

I love this game, and have started collecting models from my first car in 1986.
Bad idea as having owned over 35 cars this has become a bit of an issue.

For instance a 1/43 Audi GT5s (1983) = £65
Doing okay ish but try to find a 1990 GTi Big Bumper has been futile! let alone an '86 Renault 5 GT turbo!

I have 6 so far (all 1/43) and the search continues when funds are available!

I went through 3 clutch cables in my scirocco over 4 years. Awful design!!

How do you check with the DVLA?

clicky here then clicky vehicle enquiry, put in reg. no. and the make to see if it still lives and if it is taxed

There is now a new one which also advises on MOT status https://www.vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk

My old kit car could not be found :(. Must be an ex kit car :(. Thanks for the link

It could be that someone has put a private plate on it. Unless you know what the reg is now it won't show any details under the original reg. There is hope :)

Yes indeed private plate changes are the only flaw with this system. I was astonished my 3 series compact wasnt there as I only sold it last year and it was in virtually perfect health and only 12 years old..!

I have a tendency to drive my cars to the scrap yard when I'm done with them.

Fist car Nissan Cherry 1.3, ran it for 8 years. Blew the cylinder head gasket chasing a Merc up a hill. On 135k miles. Drove it another 200 miles home, with regular stops for water. Gave it to the Garage I bought it from, they used it as a card table.

Primera 2.0 Mk1. ran it for 8 years. Blew the radiator flat out up yet another hill. 140k miles. Sold for a grand ASAP afterwards.

Astra 1.8 Sport. Fell to bits. Drove it to the Scrap yard.

Mondeo SI 24V. Bottum end failed. 35k miles Bought a new engine for it. £3.5K, Drove it to the scrap yard some years later.

Fiat Coupe 20VT. Bottom end failed 144k miles. Chasing a mate up yet another Cornish hill. Gave it to the Guy who had serviced it, for me, the previous 9.5 years.

Mazda 323F Sport. Bottom end failed 79k miles. Drove it to the scrap Yard.

Basicaly I've sold two cars in 35 years of driving. The others lived well and died well.

The good news:- the Zed is fast enough to seldom be driven flat out. So hopefuly will live a long and happy life. :driving:

(Note no crashes, discounting minor scuffs & a hire car that a bull charged)

Being iv only had a zed 4 and now my 350 ZEE my list is short. But the current gf now drives my old zed 4 to school every morning so I see my old zed almost everyday! She let me drive it last night! Aaaah the memories! :driving:

Been driving for 10 years and I've had 7 cars.

First car : Volkswagen Golf MKII 1.3 Ryder. DECEASED.
Driven into on the wrong side of the road by a crappy old rusty Honda Accord. Golf was never the same again after that and I never got it back after it was repaired. Sold through the garage that repaired it.

Peugeot 306 1.4 meriden. Strange electrical faults, gearbox fell apart. Sold to mechanic. DECEASED

BMW E30 318iS with full Mtech II Kit.
Am very pleased that this one is still alive and kicking. Now 24 years old. I still miss this car. :)

Peugeot 306 1.8XS - Still alive, sold to my brother. Great car, was lovely to drive and hugely reliable.

Volvo S40 Sport Lux. Loved this. Hugely comfortable, loads of kit, great sound system. Still going strong it would seem.

Fiat Grande Punto 1.9JDTM Sporting. Sold in 2013.
Still going. Immaculate well equipped, fast hatch.

More 'Compacted' than Compact now then? :D
