tell us the worst car you ever owned

Citroen Visa 11RE, I had to suffer it for a year to get me to and from college. Truly awful.
Ouch! I feel for you. My cousin had one... it was epically bad :o

I've had two cars that were big mistakes. The first was a 1974 Fiat 124 Sport Coupe. Beautiful car. But was impractical in the South Dakota winters. Made a deal on a 4X4. On the way to the dealer. A connecting rod decided it didn't want to be inside the engine and punched a hole in the side. total write off that was.

The second one was not really the cars fault. But a bad dealer and circumstances with the law dealt me a blow. 1985 I got orders to Tokyo. I had an 1984 SAAB 900 turbo. Rules in japan said I could only bring a pre 1976 car. traded for a 1973 Porsche 911 2.4 targa. By the time the 911 got to Japan there were huge bubbles of rust where the rear strut towers mounted to the fenders. The Japanese government refused registration. And as a newly married underpaid airman. I couldn't afford to get it fixed. Nobody would have it with the USA reg. papers. To expensive for the Japanese to fix as Porsche back then were quite rare in Japan and hard to get work done on. I ended up giving it to a breaker just to get the monkey off my back. Lost $10,000

Ford Explorer was my initial thought. Cost me £28k new and traded it in for £9k after a year. Death rides, exploding tyres and big Ford made it near worthless just after I purchased it.

Then I remembered a hideous '66 Austin Farina purchased while I rebuilt my Cooper S.
Plywood for floor. Bald crossly remoulds that I could spin when unleashing it's 40hp, oil leaks, petrol leaks and so rusty that when I jacked it up the sill bent into the door and Mrs CJ couldn't get out.. Ran it for 6 weeks before scrapping it.

Fiat punto... Y reg... By 40k it had a new clutch, new diff, new gearbox and the head gasket was on its way out when I chopped it in! Every year it failed its mot on something or other suspension wise and the exhaust fell off on the m60 without warning one day!

I genuinely hated that car.... It was my first, and cost exactly the same to fix overall as I paid for it... Then got absolutely f#%* all when I traded it in for my Astra... Which was the second worst car I ever owned!

an old Dodge Polara wagon...bought it from my neighbour as a car pool car, it quit every time a cloud blocked the sun, had to replace the rear axle and ignition module and then I sold it at auction for $50.00.

Why did you have to remind me, I thought I'd forgotten this car. When we first moved to Cornwall, I had a very fine handling 2ltr Primera, the Mk1, the fun one. Any how we decided we needed a second car, as it's pretty much a necessity once you live here. So out I went and picked up a nice cheap little run about for the Mrs G. A Rover 213 for £850. What a pile of C##'p. I remember driving it across the Tamar Bridge & as it passed over each expansion gap there was a small puff of rust expelled from the air vents on the dash. Put up with it for six months then bought a mk1 Micra for £3k hundred times better car. Funnily enough the Rover is the only car I’ve ever bought that I don’t have a photo of.

2006 BMW 116i. Thankfully I didn't have to drive it much as it was shut to drive. The worst part was that 3 of the wheels buckled and a cam pulley broke bricking the engine 2 weeks after the warranty ran out. Fortunately the friend that sold us the car got the 2.5K bill covered as good will by BMW. However, it wasn't done well and it drank coolant like Oliver Reid drank wine. In the mean time my wife reversed it into a fence putting a large dent in the rear quarter.

Finally, with the engine on it's way out again, we limped to the local dealership on square wheels with the dash lit up like time square and traded the POS in.

Lost a fortune and left us in a financial hole that took years to crawl out of. Nearly put me off BMWs forever.

I think that if there is a prize for the worst car it should go to me. I owned a F reg 1968 Hillman Imp 850cc. it has to be rated as the biggest bag of $hit that ever rolled a wheel on this earth.

everything about it was hideous. rear engined, rear wheel drive and cross ply tyres! Steering that always needed lubrication, king pins that always need changing. overheating engine, having to run with the heater on full with all of the windows open in the height of summer to prevent the car boiling! In the winter the car would travel for many miles without heating up the interior of the car and allowing ice to form on then inside of the windscreen.

water pumps that failed regularly! long throttle cables that needed a massive return spring that made it impossible to be light with the throttle!

It was just rolling junk and should have been shot at birth!!!!

and i hated it

1982 VW Scirocco. Bought it from a car auction and the engine expired on the way home. Had it rebuilt, but it still ran like a dog. Brakes failed (twice), headlamps went dim when you switched the radio on.... leaked from the sunroof and tailgate...

In the end I swapped it with a more mechanically-minded mate for some stereo equipment. He fixed it up and kept it for 5 years. He sold it and then bought it back a few years later... it was his favourite car! :o

The most hateful car that I have ever had the misfortune to have to use was my ex's Metro... and absolute heap of sh1t. You could move the steering wheel a foot without the wheels turning. The seat collapsed once whilst she was driving at 60mph.

Was it a carby because if it was that would explain why.. I loved my 92 Rocco best car I ever owned.

I also had a BRG Rover 2000 TC 1973 as a winter car, I took swmbo on a date when we first met and it obviously broke down and she had to give it a push to bump start it! :)

We've been married 21 years this month btw!!

vauxhall chevette... (strangely just realosed that it was dark blue like the z) except of course the paint still sticks to mine... yep happy days, remember hoping for a little bit of in car entertainment reversed into a farmers field to hear a clunk,,,, got out of the car to discover the ground at the back of the car was five feet down and the wheels were hanging over the edge.... had to get her to drive while i tried to push the car back to the road////// eventually got a bit of grip and it was back onto the road took the heat out of the evening

+1
In blue LSN 360F mine didn't run long enough to get THAT many faults, I got the 10 miles home and it blew steam, I found the seller had used roofing lead or similar to bulk out the warped head/gasket, those were the days
