What would your next car be?

I have had an E85 2.5i for 5 years. I love it because it is soooo much fun to drive and is a lot of car for not much money.

So I was idly thinking, if I was to change it what would I go for? It would have to be under £10k, reliable and have good access to spare parts. I would want a coupe that was fun to drive. What would you go for?

I went from an e85 to a 986 boxster S, though a 987 boxster would be in budget too.

I've also had a 350z, which was more of a sports GT but still a good car.

I’m looking at a 981 S but it shows how much more you have to spend to get something objectively better than a 3L E85. While I’m making the move, the Z4 is - I believe - the best value smile per £ available

It's a very good question. One which I find myself asking every day of the week.

£10k is not a lot of money for a car these days (apparently), so the choices are limited.
You can buy an old high mileage, knackered, car of almost any description for £10k. But anything any good will cost a fortune to run, service, etc IMO. So many cars' purchase prices are a false economy.

Better engine note, and a touch faster. Better steering and brakes. Worse interior, worse driving ergonomics. Arguably worse looks too. The 987 fixes all the foibles of the 986 though, very accomplished sports car.

I suspect I will start selling my car in the next month or so. I have always wanted a TVR Griffiths....
I am also toying with a 2cv with a BMW R Series motor transplanted - triple the horse power can't be bad.

I was surprised to read that under the new car tax regime cars like the original Audi TT, Porsche boxter or Saab 95 were now pushing 700 pounds in road tax. Think I would avoid any car where I would have to pay that for driving on potholed roads

I’m seriously considering older cars

I’m looking for a good project bmw e10 (2002) that the tin worm hasn’t been bad to

That as a daily with a half decent engine swap, MOT exempt will be something nice to swan about in while still keeping the M for Sunday best

My next car would be an upgrade to an MR, in a blue, non nav, full light colour leather, champagne or light sepang, low owners and miles.
Or a CSL if I come into some money. The E46 of course not that new monstrosity.

I’ve previously owned a 987.1 Boxster, 987.2 Cayman, 986 Boxster and Audi TT. I regretted selling the Cayman until I bought my 3.0si Sport which is a great car. Change of circumstance means I’m going to be doing more motorway driving from September so I may have to part with it. Been thinking of an E89 or 370Z GT.

have a Z4M Roadster and the only viable upgrade options for me are a 981 Boxster Spyder or a R8 V10 manual.

So, I'll probably have the Z4M until legislation outlaws it.
Funny you should say that as the only options I can think of for my MC are a Cayman or a manual R8, unless I got very brave then maybe a TVR 350C!
