What did you do to your Z4M today?

My new vibra technics mounts won't be here till midweek but I'm taxing tomorrow, so as I just put new camber arms on I did a quick 4 wheel alignment. Might pop over to Re- fuel in Cullompton on Sunday as well, I think there's a BMW meet and a bacon sarnie with my name on it 😁

Very envious of the amount of space and kit you have there!

Random question - how do you find the Automotech lift? I’ve just designed a garage around one of the smaller ones - the 4T36S - but am a bit nervous now to actually click “Buy”! They seem like good value for money but feedback is hard to come by. My priority is to be able to squeeze two cars in, but I’d also use it for occasional spannering.

I've only had my Automotech for 18 months but so far I can find no faults and it was a great price. John-e89 is also a fan, he recommended the Automotech 2 post lift but I debated with the voices in my head and chose the 4 post. Most jobs would be quicker and easier on the 2 post but 4 wheel alignments which you should also be able to do on the 4T36 were on my list. And yes I'm very lucky to have so much space. Go on press the button.

Xenon bulb needed changing, noticed when swapping the bulbs to test that one of the the retaining clips was missing.

Not available to buy so I made one.

On disturbing the back covers to test it's let water into one of the clusters and cooked the ballast too, next weekends job!

Do yourself a favour and replace them as a maintenance item.

Good skills, are you an orthodontist ? 😂

Fitted my new vibra-technics mounts and a pair of OEM gearbox mounts today, took me a couple of hours, then I went for a drive around the South Hams. They feel great, none of the noise and vibration I was warned about, worth the extra cost

You know it was a painful job when the grinder is out!

About an hour with the hairdryer, new ballast and back covers and it's all good again.

I took it to a Pistonheads meet at Thruxton despite the weather because it didn't matter during my session on the skidpan!

Turned the T/C completely off and had a great time sliding around. :D

Ongoing headlight problems.

Realised the back casing had a section missing, not sure how I missed this the first time!

I heat welded a section of wire for support and built it up with two part plastic filler.

Fingers crossed this holds up, but more importantly it passed the MOT.

Interestingly, aftermarket ballast are encapsulated in resin so it worked fine after drying the headlight out again.

Fixed my rear view mirror as the anti dazzle had stopped working. Realised on the drive home after buying it!

Had the symptoms of the halo in the middle of the mirror and under closer inspection some fluid may have already started to leak as there was a little bubbling from the paint on the underside of the mirror.

Sourced part from MirrorJohn, excellent service. Took about 35 mins to take the mirror off the car, dismantled, reassembled and back in the car following the tutorial on his website. Works brilliantly, highly recommended.

Used the same seller when I did mine

Doing some general maintenance before it goes back on the road in a few weeks

Anyone else running a Karb or other airbox notice the OE BMC filter pops out a bit in the middle at the top, been on a year to be clear, wasn't like it when I installed it new.........
I'm thinking the two tabs on the inside of the snorkel part of the box keep it in place but still seem's odd but maybe it's normal 🤷‍♂️

Just incase anyone else notices this happens on their airbox, this is what Karbonious have told me:

Hi Andy, good morning,
It could be a bit tight but this is for a reason, we have seen that some air filters is loosening over time allowing dust to pass inside the airbox. , that’s why we designed it so tight.
Anyway when you will install the front carbon piece the airfilter it will enter in his place .
Regards

Just to note, I did check in the airbox behind the filter and there wasn’t any signs of dust or any other debris, or oil residue for that matter as I’ve seen some suggest the filter may or may not be oiled.

My plenum is an old one, and the filter is not as tight. I have seen some dust particles on the plenum side. That said, if it bows like that could let dust through, unless the unfiltered section had a ledge to push the filter back in place

Put it back on the road after winter. During winter I have replaced the wheels (again), now have 4x different sets to choose from, replaced the exhaust back boxes with Stromungs (really pleased with them), new wind deflector fitted, oil and filter change and I also swapped out one of the pre cat O2 sensors.
She is running perfectly and it was great to be back driving her again.
