Roof spoiler Jim..but not as we know it!

Best mod I've seen from you so far - very special.

Extra marks for the mounting solution - pure class.

Yes one of my finest…still I explored the option..unlike the keyboard warriors / armchair critics…

Obviously putting it out there engenders various responses..

Amazing car and massive respect for what you have done, but imho I would de spoiler and de badge if it were me.

Well I disagree about the boot spoiler…each to their own..as stated the E89 bottom lacks a certain je ne sais quoi

I prefer the E85 with the factory duck tail spoiler a thing of beauty imho

As to the badges..sadly fixed on with the wrong glue so stuck there for posterity or until I respray the boot…heh ho

Hey it looks no worse than the M50 badge :poke:

Yes I was looking for a Z4M badge in gloss black…but decided if bmw can call a g29 a M40i with 335 BHP then I can call this M50i with 550bhp ..simples…should have gone for a M55i or maybe M60i…? Thoughts ?

I quite like the M50i badge. Makes sense.

That or get an X5M badge and re-order it to look like a Mazda....

TBH I test fitted as a spoof..unfortunately the glue melted the paint…so can’t now remove it without a re-paint…heh ho

Next time I’ll bite the bullet and go Z4M and get the full wrath..

You could always add an Alpina badge to the M50i to really wind people up.

Yes that would..however my logic has a grain of truth / reality …Alpina would be off piste completely…not that I don’t like Alpinas..

My E89 is in part at least what BMW should have built if they ever did a real E89 Z4M

Uprated suspension linkages
Uprated dampers / springs
Uprated steering parts
Premium suspension bushes
Uprated ARBs
LSD
Lots more power..major engine mods
Tuned DCT gearbox
Massive brakes
Bigger wheels / tyres
Premium interior
Better audio system
Uprated exhaust system
Discrete bodywork changes

I wonder what the options would be for something absolutely OTT - I think the subtle aftermarket parts are all kindof 'meh'.

Thinking along the lines of 911 ducktail, or maybe something akin to the m3 GT2 - go big & bold - would that work better?

Obviously polarising - but if you like it you like it.

Something for a more skilled person than me to photoshop up & see how it might work?

Seeing this is an E range car, if the M division had got hold of the E89 and had a play, I dare say it would/should have had the S65B40 V8 from the M3 as the E85/6 Z4M had the S54 from the E46 M3. They may have also increased the track, perhaps even further by flaring the arches again as they did with the E46 M3

Regardless, you have done a great deal to your car to make it your own version, we can only guess as to what the engineers at Garching would have done to the e89.

The normally aspirated V8 connected to a manual transmission in the E89 would have been awesome, dump the folding roof for a proper coupe body saving some weight.

Such a personal thing..my view wass that the 'M' cars of that vintage, Z4M, E90M3 were relatively subtle in their 'M' ness..broader shoulders maybe, quad exhaust, small spoilers / diffusers etc etc..

Later M IMHO became much more 'aggressive' ..personally I think they look 'naff' and quite tacky..but each to their own.

I did skirt with the GT3 look but feels it just looks dated unless its exceptionally well executed..

Feel free to buy another E89 and lead the way! Please!

Timing is everything.. the E90s were coming to their end well before the E89 started to roll of the production line.

IMHO the S55 would have been the appropriate engine at the time., but it didn't arrive till 2014..its cousin the N55 started in 2009.

Of course the 1M arguably the cutest baby M had the same version of the N54 as the 35is.

Of course with their ability to wave a magic/marketing/engineering wand the wider tracker/ bigger haunches would have been natural things to do!

Marketing wise maybe a fixed head version would have been the angle..as previously discussed the weight saving whilst not trivial would not have been significant, but good enough for the marketing department.

To antagonise you of course pre E90 M3 and all since then have had a SMG/DCT/Auto box as an option!-:)

Interestingly from separate sources in the last few days (BMW chassis design expert and my geo guys) the confirmation that the E89 body in white shell is actually very stiff..of course it could be made stiffer but probably to no real effect.

The 'issue' is the deliberate choice of softer springing and more compliant elastomeric bushings to help address the harshness of the run flat tyres!

Had I not run out of money / tolerance from SWMBO / skill / tools etc I may have gone further..-:)

I'm trying! Probably an e85 though... if that counts.

But whatever I get will end up pretty much standard TBH - these tweaks are not for me, much as I can appreciate some of the under hood goodness you have done - the visual stuff (from the colour onwards) just isn't my cup of tea.

The engineering stuff is epicly good IMHO.

Yup..I reached a fork in the road when I came into some money when I had my mildly tweaked 20i MSport... go G29 M40i, go 35i/35is addressing the known deficient aspects in terms of handling /reliability/ plus mild cosmetics etc / go F Type..

Car wise for me with hindsight the F Type was the right choice ..just couldn't get on with the F Type culture..

Maybe if they had released the G29 with some 'decent' colours life would have been different..

Each to their own!-:)

Not prying, but I imagine you have an inheritance tax problem, and it seems your spend on this car is probably helping that 👍🏻

I couldn’t help but laugh at some of the comments on your duplicate post on FB

I don't plan to have an inheritance tax problem as we are not planning to leave any money to anyone!-:)

For sure buying a G29 or even a Porkster would have been far more cost effective..but ..you can't take it with you!

I long have had the philosophy of do things and then have the option to regret them rather than ponder 'what if'

I've left most E89 related forums and most E89 FB pages now.. I may leave a few more...

The 'problem' is this forum is only attracting a fraction of the E89 population and FB is the goto place..

I think I will just accept that..at least here..sometimes..people read the whole post before being nasty!-:)

True, but the last E46s had been made before BMW put the S54 into the E85/6.

So on that basis a full fat E89 M should have had the S65 from the E9* M3, especially as that is what the GT3 had.

If BMW had built that I would probably have one!
