We always walk the dog in the Ashdown Forest. Our car park is a photo shoot for a few rare cars. This year, Eagle cars were taking a few pictures but today there was a Z3M and a BMW M3. Both were unattended with doors and boots open, no sign of the owners. Just as we were leaving a 2002 turbo joined the group.

I passed them on the road earlier in my Z4MC, there was also a 1M in their convoy - I believe a magazine is doing a feature on them with the help of Munich Legends.

Those breadvans don't get any prettier with age. Especially in 'babyshit yellow'.

In 2014, there was one with about 60k miles that was for sale for £15k for months and months. In those days, an S50 ///M Coupe was about £8k.

But then in 1985 a Mk1 RS2000 Escort was about £200. Find a presentable one of those for less than £40k now.

Fickle; that's what the old car market is.

The bread van will cost you a fair bit of bread!

The Escort has increased in value over 40 years, whist the BMW prices have increased very suddenly.
The Z3M depreciated like any car until about 2014 then there was a sudden peak in interest and equivalent cars to those that were <£10k in 2014 were advertised for >£15k in 2015. At that time I was looking by to buy one so watched the market closely.
Now, cars that are a bit ratty and would have been £8k in 2014 are advertised at £25-30k.

Luckily I dislike them with a passion, so that will save me a few quid.
I just don't get it. Why is the Z3M 'clown shoe', 'breadvan' or whatever derogatory term you want to use so sought after?
The Z3 roadster ain't the prettiest car ever made, but they went and made it ten times worse by making it look like a two seater estate with 'carlos fandango' comedy rear arches.

They even did a 2.8 version of the coupe

The very fact that it looks like a two-seater estate with Carlos Fandango rear arches is the appeal

The bread vans are super cool I've always wanted one. Main reason I haven't is because the Z4M is better in every respect apart from value! Which is also a plus 😂

It would be estoril with matching seats for me. Wish they had made the Z4M in estoril iss my fav M colour. Shame they made it a non M colour.
