Hi all, thought I would post what I hope is a success story.
Out of the blue I was informed by my wife that the airbag light lit up on Scully (our Z4) whilst driving down a local B road.
The E85 in question is a 2003 3.0 and up to now has only had a new expansion tank and rocker cover gasket replaced in my ownership. I checked under the seats wiring and even plumbed in a seat mat bypass to eliminate it as a cause. All to no avail but worth a shot.
So, I tried a B800 scanner and found it would diagnose the fault but not reset the light. Code 38 on that device, "swinging voltage test". Then I plugged in my Carsoft C110 scanner, this diagnosed and turned the light off when requested.
But, even though the airbag light stayed off whilst driving, the next day on start up the light came straight back on. I read up on the swinging voltage test and thought it might be the battery and so charged the thing right up with an Oxford optimate type device. The fault was still apparent.
Thinking it would only throwing a fault on startup (as per my homework reading on this very forum) I disconnected the battery and found a bit of corrosion on the negative cable clamp. This was cleaned off and I also cleaned both battery posts and the positive cable whilst I was there.
The battery was then reconnected, fault cleared with the Carsoft and up to now after 3 shutdowns and startups the light is still off.
Result and smiles all round so far. I don't post much on this forum but I do read it a lot.
Hope this info helps someone out as much as this forum has helped me.
I love my Z.
