Thanks to Wassups unfortunate breaking of his Zed I’ve finally got the grey/chrome kidney grillls swapped-out for all black.

Brave choice James, and good to see something a bit different on the coupe. I can’t help feeling that colour combo is emphasising the need for a set of spacers front and back. Mine looks so much better with 15mm on the back although I haven’t got round to doing the fronts yet.

Replaced the front suspension (spring/strut assembly) with a second hand but much fresher set, broadly using bigwinn’s how-to. I should have read it read it more thoroughly, then I would have detatched the headlight leveller and wouldn’t have broken it.

The old suspension mostly looked original (18 years, 135k miles) although the near side shock and drop link had been replaced with non-OEM at some point.

The good news was the knuckle pinch bolts both came out OK with gentle application of the breaker bar and some WD40. They were heavily rusted on the top half and the end of the thread, so definitely needed to be replaced. The bad news was the drop links were insanely hard to get off, I ended up having to split one of the self locking nuts with a Dremel.

Now just waiting for new droplinks and bolts to arrive so I can finish the job.

Finally got around to a job I have been meaning to do since I got the car two years ago, tidyup the wiring of the aftermarket front and rear parking sensors underneath the car. Whoever fitted them just bunched the front wires together and strung them under the length of the car inside the plastic cover that protects the brake lines front to rear. Didnt like how they were cable tied together at either end and just cable tied to odd points. Using split plastic coduit I fed the wiring into this from the underside of the front bumper to where the cables dissapeared into the plastic channel and used more conduit at the rear from where it emerged and into the boot via the side air vent in the left corner of the boot. Further conduit put in the last run inside the boot to the battery box where the parking sensor control box was situated. Cable tied the conduit at fron and back at suitable locations so it was held secure and in a neater fashion.
Whilst under there and using a couple of spare lengths of the split conduit I fed these over the hard brake lines where the emerge into the left wheelarch and get grit blasted by whats thrown at them by the rear wheel. I had previously cleaned these up when I replaced the flex lines with stainless braided lines over twelve months ago and today noticed one was again starting to get some rust colour on it. Cleaned and painted them again then fitted two short lengths of the coduit to give them some added protection in this spot. Run ouit of things to do or improve on the Z4 now so plugged it in to the laptop and had an explore of trhe functions of Tool32 to find my way around this particular bit of software. Will be seeing if it will solve another members change of Vin number thats required on his airbag module we changed out when his got an internal fault. Usual method of coding it to the car using BCS Expert and WinKPF didnt change the Vin Number so we were left with the airbag light on and an error showing incorrect Vin on the module. Have high hopes Tool 32 will sort this later this week when he gets the car to me. Would be interested in finding an Insex to all the coding program function that are in Tool32, usual searches have not turned up anything so far, managed to fathom out whats required to do the Vin change in the airbag module SIM85 but would be nice to see a list of what all the other programms can do within the workings.

As I am on a shoestring for my project car and needed them this week I just got pattern part droplinks off eBay. The bolts are cheapest off BMW eBay store, so they are OEM and the ARB bushes are Febi also inexpensive off eBay; all with a 2-3 day turnaround.

Ahh i didn't think of BMW eBay store! Will have a look now, thanks! Already replaced ARB bushes but have a very annoying rattle from front end and think it might be the drop links, seems worse on driver side. Whats next on your job list?
