What have you done to your car today?
I feel your pain, a couple of weeks ago I did the same and even with spring compressors I couldn’t quite get that final inch or so for full compression, plenty of Saxon words ensued….

Maybe it should be in different post, so apology for off topic:)
It was a desperation and with 2 sets of compressors.
When "undoing" compressors, I had a close ones twice on my hands when it just jump away as compressor started to slide away - scary stuff - will never ever do that again.
Both compressors would bottm out, but spring was still miles away, doing it with rachet too, so got pretty long workout.
Luckily the thing sitting on my neck went to working the problem out- pic should show it LOL
You just have to get angle right, as otherwise just like with compressors, it will want to spring out - less risky (attempts were made)

Changed the o-rings and filter on the VANOS pressure valve. The filter was pretty clean, but the plastic had turned brown and was pretty brittle, the new filter is bright white. The inner o-ring was flat and had hardened / plasticised.

Fitted some spacers.
Before;
After;
It doesn’t look massively different but I do think it looks better, so some success there. Also did an oil service - shell helix ultra plus a Mann filter.
Whilst I was under the car I took a look at the water pump and stat. It definitely looks like it could still be the original pump. I’ve no history of it being changed and it’s pretty cruddy. The car is on 118000 miles so decided to replace it and have put an order in to Autodoc. More tinkering to come then Happy days

Not today, but Friday, I hosted enuff_zed for the morning and he kindly replaced a hose & leaky coolant temp sensor. I then went for a 2 hour shakedown to Chipping Norton and back in the relentless pissing rain - would’ve been so much more fun Saturday or today; Sod’s Law eh!
Thanks, Martin - brilliant at fixing Zeds, fixing weather?…

Interested to hear how this goes as it's something I think I need to do on mine. Hoping the fact it's electrical makes it easier.......AdyBish wrote: ↑Sun May 05, 2024 10:53 pm Whilst I was under the car I took a look at the water pump and stat. I worried as I'd never done one. Took less than an hour to swap it over and then a bit longer to do the fancy bleeding process. Longest part of the whole job was getting it up on ramps and the undertray off.chanlon1 wrote: ↑Thu May 09, 2024 2:31 pmInterested to hear how this goes as it's something I think I need to do on mine. VANOS off, seals replaced and ready to go back on.
I hope it’s worth it, because it’s a lot of effort to replace a few o-rings. Thanks to bigwinn for confidence building advice along the way.

Cheers Ben.
Always nerve-wracking, but much easier than replacing Vanos seals!
