Just found this thread , did you ever find a way to code out the steering warning light?

Also is there a way of fitting a cooler to protect the seals and pump.?

I’m going to have a go at this . Great write up and photos are amazing help. I always forget to take photos and then can’t be of help.... must try harder.

I know this thread is old but wanted to ask:
Do you think you might have too small of a pulley on the pump? Less spin should be less power and mpg drain.

I don't know if hydraulic steering pumps work like superchargers so that you can vary your assist percentage like your boost--with different size pulleys, just as much as you want within a fairly wide range. But that would be nice.

I want to put this in here for reference sake, that apparent power loss from electric steering removal could be due to the sport mode no longer changing the throttle response, since apparently the throttle response change to sport isn't activated without the electric steering motor in there.
Found this quote from

viewtopic.php?t=114504

"...the Sport button is activated by the electric steering motor but all that does is alter the speed at which the throttle reaches wide open status so it’s not essential."

Brilliant write up mr Harper, just carried out the conversion and very happy with result, left electric steering motor connected to power in car but removed the shaft to the column and now the sport button still works. Blanked out the steering light on dash as could not code it out. Important to get the right pump and brackets as there are a lot of different types on three series out there and I think I have all of them. Made up the intermediate shaft using the z4 top part and three series bottom part by removing the hardy splicer and rebuilding it. :)

Ronnie :

Can you elaborate on what you did with the shaft please?

I assume you bought the E46 lower swivel joint, and removed its splined coupler?

How and what tools are required to do that?

Thanks

Just to confirm, I've converted my car to hydraulic, coded out the error AND still retained the functionality of the sport button which I wanted as mine is an auto.
