Auto Electon Harrogate, Roof motor replacement

Post by mr.tourette » Tue Oct 27, 2015 10:34 pm

So, Had my roof motor replaced yesterday by Mervyn at Autoelectron, top notch service, genuine bmw motor with 2 year warranty and relocated to the boot  You'd never even know it was in there, made up a little bracket to mount it at the back behind the felt, he still modified my drain holes as thats part of the service he provides. He had not mounted one in the boot before and even though it took him longer than he expected as he wanted it spot on for future installs he didn't charge any extra, nice bloke too and has also owned a z4, cant recommend him highly enough if you need a new motor. All in less than 600 notes

As an aside we chatted about the German fella that does the relocating service without removing the roof, he has an endoscope and is quite keen on having a go at it so might be worth giving him a call if you're interested in doing a relocation of a working motor

Sorely tempted to get him to do this rather than fiddling with getting the roof out myself.
Did he mount the motor on the bulkhead behind the seats, or on the passenger side near the suspension mount?

Also does it sound louder if he's bolted a bracket to the bodywork?

Good to know there are a few local places that can do a good job.

There is a place in Bradford that also sells and fits reconditioned roof motors

Mounted on bulkhead, attached a pic, no louder than it was before

It's a shame bmw never fitted the motor there, would have saved an awful lot of expense for owners!

I had my roof motor replaced by Forza GB in Chepstow and they did the job without removing the roof.

It seems to be the way forward and hopefully never have to get it done again as no more rust issues.

As said earlier, the guy in Bradford will do the same job even cheaper. £100 cheaper!

Ah, right. Thanks for that as was unaware it wasn't a new genuine part.
