Quick update: The Service manager at Halliwell Jones BMW in Warrington has told me to do one basically. Reckons that because the car is over 5, that this type of thing is no longer covered by anything at all.

There's an email to the CEO of BMW UK and to WatchDog on the way, complete with all of the examples of water ingress in to headlights and cracked alloys (I now have one of them too, the SM told me) that I can find, also included copies of the TSB that we've managed to find about the bad tail lights.

If any of you guys have more details around your experiences of this stuff, I'll happily add it to my email.

Thanks

Ok i think i've absolutely nailed it now...

Now, the question is, how do I get BMW to specifically look at that, without telling them that i've torn the car to bits? They're also saying that it'll take 4hours to take the trim out, when we know full well from FlyBobbie's video that it takes about 5mins???

Do I speak to BMW UK about it and get absolute confirmation from them that if there is an issue wiht the vent recall that they did, they'll pay for all work?

...also, look at the absolute mess they've made of the paintwork surrounding the vent?!?

Isn't that the vent that was replaced on the recall for this reason? Where are you pouring water to get it to come through?

I believe it is that vent, yes.

I'm pouring water down the tail light, but a constant stream (to try and simulate rain runoff).

The vent hasn't by any chance been fitted upside down?
That's really bad.
I would take it stripped down.
Tell them how long it took for you to strip and show them.
It's your car, you can do what you like.

Personally I'd go back and tell them you've seen it coming in there and clearly the recall hasn't been done. Even if there's no warranty they should honour the recall or faulty work done during the recall.

Really struggling with BMW UK - they're classing this as 'water ingress', so are refusing to assist...even though it's a BMW dealership that is responsible for the shoddy work, so i'm thinking of fixing this myself now.

Does anyone know how to either:

a/ remove the rear bumper, so that i cna get the vents from the outside, or
b/ remove the mass of wiring that sits on the right hand side fo the boot

??

Well jack the car up, wheel off and remove as many fasteners as you can find. Be careful though, the material they use is like compressed old fabric and tears easily, especially if wet.
Another brilliant BMW design. What's wrong with good old plastic!

In fact when I have a chance, I will remove the liners and paint them to make them a bit more durable and to stop all the crap sticking to them.
One already has some gloss black paint applied.

Bought my E89 about 6 weeks ago and this is the next in a long list of issues I've had to resolve.

Noticed on Friday night the boot floor on the offside corner was very wet. Joy. Beginning to regret my purchase of what seemed like a great car
