Phones that are compatible/incompatible with BMW Bluetooth

Post by davidpfitz » Thu Jul 26, 2007 3:56 pm

I thought it would be useful to have a section on what phones work with the Z4 OEM Bluetooth kit.

The list BMW maintain is not exhaustive, with many people reporting phones not on this list that work fine.
http://www.bmw.co.uk/bmwuk/bluetooth/

There are 13 different bluetooth modules in use in Z4s, which explains why some phones work with phonebook on some cars and not on others.

If anyone PMs me with a handset to add, I'll add to this list:

---------------------------------------------------
LG Chocolate KG800 Pairs, connects, but constantly disconnects
SonyEricsson W880i Reports that it pairs, but drops during/after calls. Other reports that it is fine.
LG Prada Pairs, works... but when you get in the car the next time, as soon as it pairs it will redial the last number. Doesn't endear you to your friends when leaving for work at 5.30am.

POP-Port nokia phones (most of them) will work in the cradles, besides physical fit. So, sometimes you can jam them in, other times not.

1. Bluetooth enabled on phone
2. Hold down Talk button on handset holder for 3 secs
3. Turn Ignition to 1
4. Hold down Talk button further 3 secs then release
5. Monitor should be showing something like pairing? ... I doesn't do this only the normal selection screen.

.... what stupid mistake am i making???

Don't hold it for so long ... just a second or so should do. If you have Pro SatNav, once the screen pops up, let go of the button. There's a knack to it.

Sony ericsson w880i pairs with the bluetooth but drops during/after calls.

Sony ericsson m600i pairs with bluetooth but the phone book never loads properly

Nokia 6300 works perfectly

Sony Ericsson K610i works perfectly

As I try new phones I will update the list - I work in telecoms so swap phones all the time...

In general, yes ... but they don't all use the same Bluetooth chips etc. Trying to catch specific models, here.

No neeed to update the list, but I have a K800i and an early 2004 Z4 and the call quality for the listener on the orher end is not good... I need to hunch over the steering wheel and speak loud... I have heard there is a different setup in later cars... I've also heard that other phones work better (I have not tested that).

Prob best keep these findings off the list, but would be interested to hear what the call quality is like (roof up, <70mph) on different setups.

I've got a SE W880i and, although it dropped out a couple of times in the first few days I had the car, it is as good as gold now.

With reference to the Nokia 'E' series they do have a download with reference to bluetooth and car kits, I n=know its needed for the parrot kits, might also apply to BMW kits.
