Roof not folding correctly: SOLVED
Hi all,
Recently had the roof motor replaced, and all was perfect until today.
Today, went to put the roof down, and it seems that the rear window is getting stuck on the catch on the rear bulkhead (maybe the wrong term!). If I stop the roof going down and push the window back towards the boot, all works perfectly. Also, on the way up there is no sign of anything catching or any issues.
Just wondering if anyone else has seen this before, and if so, was there a fix for it?
Thanks in advance
Kieran

Re: Roof getting blocked on way down
Is it folding properly?
There was a thread ages ago about the side folding in not out which can make it snag.

Re: Roof getting blocked on way down
It seems to be folding correctly, but something is pushing the window about 1/2 an inch forward and onto the catch,
Having looked at it again, there are two spring loaded panels either side of the parcel shelf that seem to drop as the roof comes down, however the springs seem quite stiff, so am going to look at lubing them to see if it makes any difference.
Will take a look for the thread you mentioned!

Re: Roof not folding correctly: SOLVED
Have managed to solve this today!
The roof did appear to be getting into the wrong folding position, and was therefore pushing the screen too far forward. I tried to old method of tweaking the fabric when the roof was going down, however this only seemed to last for the time that I was playing around, and when the roof was left closed for a while, it would just revert to the previous ways!
It was then that I started looking at the spring loaded plates on the shelf (right on the end, arond item 16 here: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do ... g=54&fg=10) in a bit more detail.
I it appeared that when these were pushed down from in the cabin, the roof was perfect. I then had a think about what purpose they served, and deduced that they could be done without, so I have removed the springs and left the plate in place and all is working perfectly, without the need to prod and poke the roof fabric!
Will update with any rattles etc, however the plates could simple be taped down if they became a nuisance, or even removed as their purpose is a little unclear!

That looks similar to what was happening, however all fixed now with that small mod mentioned above.

Re: Roof not folding correctly: SOLVED
Just to update, that after nearly a week of this mod, there are no rattles, the roof is PERFECT without any input or prodding from me to get it down! Definitely worth a try if you are having roof folding issues!

Another thing that happens is that it gets stuck behind the stowage lock (at least on mine) and then slams down.
Since that piece of metal was discontinued by BMW anyway, I removed it. Had no issues since

I have done this spring removal mod as well and can report it solved the issue for me too with 0 drawbacks.
Only thing was on some bumps the flaps would slap - but I just tapped them down and all is well.
Thanks OP

Mine never caught the catch so I thought I'd try this. Didn't bother removing the spring, just taped down the flaps works perfectly now, can you believe it . What the hell are those flaps for . Talking about the ones on the roof storage shelf btw .
