bonnet hinge issue.
A few times now when i've shut the bonnet and then gone for a drive, it tends to pop back up.
It done it again on Saturday and was definitely shut when I left the wheel alignment place, but came up when I reached about 60mph. It didn't open up all the way so must be latching on something?
A z4 around my area had his bonnet hinge fail and hit his windscreen, so don't really want that happening to mine!
Obviously when it happened, I pulled over and shut it again and it's been fine since.
Anyone else have/had this issue?

Re: bonnet hinge issue.
Try closing it with your hands either side of the bonnet where the catches are, if you shut it by pushing in the middle it might not be fully home-it won't open fully until you operate the latch under the bonnets edge so sounds like it's being held on that?

Oh right, so it latches at each edge aswell as in the middle? It does seem like the ones at the edges weren't latched and it was only the middle one holding it in.

Re: bonnet hinge issue.
Not so much a hinge issue but the catch issue. I would say it needs adjusting as it must only be just securing it.

I gently press down on one side at a time when the bonnet is closed.

I get mrs smartbear to seductively roll over the bonnet to ensure its shut properly.
Does anybody know of a good dent doctor?

First of all -LUBE the catch - where the hinge is. WD40.
My bonnet opener was stiff as... Some WD40 down the cable where the catch is and it's good as new.
The catch is only in the middle. It's only rubber on the sides to make the bonnet sit right.

The latches which sound like the parts which are failing are not in the middle, there are two of them-one on each side of the bonnet. The catch that's in the middle sounds like it's the only part still working ok as it's stopping the unlatched bonnet from hitting the windscreen!RenoRaines wrote:First of all -LUBE the catch - where the hinge is. Unlocking the bonnet; I would say the only part responsible for that is here, in the middle.
The only hinges on the side I'm aware of are these ones:
And I do not advise to push the bonnet down to lock. On BMW Z4 or any other car. Doing so can result in making a nice dent on that part of the bonnet. "Slamming" it from 10iches won't do any harm. My 2 cents
