Is there a price war going on with car insurance?

Post by Logan » Wed Oct 23, 2013 9:19 pm

Hi, just had my renewal quotation for my Z4M Coupe and it was £10 less than last year - now only £340. :)

That is a change - they usually seem to add £100 and hope I don't notice - bad luck for them, as I always do.

So I did my usual check on Confused .com only to find prices around £230 and upwards. Admiral, Churchill, Privilege 8)

I had been contacted by the IAM Surety insurance who when I told him of my quotes to date said that they have a policy in place of matching or beating any other insurance quote.

So I set him the challenge and he came back with £216.

I am 55 male no points, IAM member, living in Warwickshire. £100 voluntary excess, policy excess £100. Includes legal assistance, windscreen cover, courtesy car, 10,000miles of which 2000 business miles. 9 years protected No Claim Bonus.

Is this too good to be true?

Admiral dropped mine from from £919 to £671. Still excruciating, but percentage-wise it's a win.

£216 is incredible. :o

It's a soft insurance market in the world of commercial insurance, not sure if that translates to other insurance markets also. If so, companies are keen to write more policies and as such reduce their premiums. Enjoy it whilst it lasts.

Yes, we're certainly seeing that the quotes we're competing with have dropped about £100 on average in the last few months. The good news is we're responding and the current sign-up rate for us is bang on 50% (so we win 1 in every 2 quotes offered).

Be happy to help any of this forum's members save money when your renewal comes up.

This price will go some way to offsetting the rather large vehicle licence price.

Last November it was 890 for mine! Did a quote last night oddly enough ready for next month, 490!!!! Don't know if turning 26 in the meantime has been a milestone? I always thought 25 would have made the big difference ? Not complaining though!!

Car insurance is mental. 3 years ago my car (Manchester) was £1250 to insure (mental). A year later £850, this year £640 and a quote just this second from eSure... £450.

Now I know that Manchester's risk is still very high... so..

How does this make any sense at all..

I think with improvements in vehicle security theft is much less of an issue than it was and insurers are finding that's no longer an excuse for loading certain postcodes.

We'd certainly welcome the opportunity to try!

Do you want to PM me your number in mid-November and I'll get someone to call you?
