I’ve attached a picture of the broken wires. Notice that two other wires have a kink in them. That’s what I felt when I was feeling along the loom (braided cable sheathing).

Z4 roof only closing half way - (NOT THE PUMP!)
Hi all
Sorry for resurrecting this post but recently (just when we had a mini heatwave, my roof decided to stop working... Exactly the same issues as talked about in this post... The motor works, the hydraulic oil is at the right level and the roof will close half way before I have to complete the process manually (and the roof light remains flashing).
I had a scan done and had the error codes appear as per the image.
Having searched for the error code I've landed here!
Can anyone tell me if this is the correct replacement wiring harness I need? I see there is one like this but others are selling a braided cable too?

Any help would be appreciated!

I’ve had this and it was a loom break- easier to repair rather than replace?
Where you based? Happy to help if needed
I’ll find my how to thread I did when I repaired mine

Hello mate
Thanks for the reply, glad to hear that it's a straight forward repair - I'm in Ipswich - the mechanic who normally works on the car is waiting for me to let him know if he can help (all credit to him, but by his own admission be would be going in blind), if you're able to help, even with some instructions I'd be grateful

bigwinn, Thanks a lot... Sounds like quite a common issue and possibly towards the top end! So essentially I need to take the plastic tray off at the front to pull the lining back and with any luck, find that break...
Cheers Stuart, I'll have a look over this weekend

Z4 roof only closing half way - (NOT THE PUMP!)
Morning. Late on parade, sorry.
I'm in Attleborough and happy to help but I'll be honest I've not done the loom work so Stuart would be guiding me in the same manner as he would your local mechanic.

What I can offer is to relocate the roof motor to the boot if you ever want to take up that option.

enuff_zed,
Cheers for your comment, I bought the car a couple of years back and the garage had already relocated the motor into the boot, so it looks like I'll be going with the suggestions from bigwinn,
Cheers both for your help so far

bigwinn, so I've fallen over at the first hurdle ( possibly).... I've taken the cowling off after removing the 7 torx screws and see 2 cables going to the top motor.
I can see where the braided cable goes but there's the other cable that disappears and I can't work out where it comes out at (see the photo).
Is it that cable I should be looking at for a break in the wires or the braided one? If it's not the non braided cable then that's ok.
Is it then a case of having to strip away the braiding to be able to access the wires and locate the break(s)?
Sorry for the dumb questions but I'm trying to do this right the first time so I don't have to take the bus to work Monday morning

Now I may be wrong, and Stuart will soon correct me, but I was lead to believe that it IS that braid covered set of wires, but not there.
I think you should be looking towards the rear where they fold as the roof goes down.
I believe you have to open up the braid cover and find the break in the wire inside?
