Z4mc cat d

Post by gallaghb » Mon Feb 25, 2013 11:27 am

Hi all

A m coupe has come on auto trader but hpi checked it and is cat d write off. Wondering what people thought are. I was going to go see it today but not sure now.

Up for £14995. 27k miles. It's got cruise nav heated. Csls and a super sprint exhaust. So I'd cheap but wonder if its cheap enough really

Spoke to seller he says it was new wing, head light and door repair. Plus air bag. All gen parts used. Obviously I would want receipts.

Thoughts?

I would ask to see pictures to. If they knows that much about the repair. It must of be theirs so they should have pics. I would if i had an accident?? If they don't i would suspect they may be throwing you a line and hopping your a fish mate. There are loads on Z4MC in that price range.

Personally I would be cautious.

If the seller is not up front on the advert then they may be less than straight when they describe the repairs.

Other more experienced M buyers will advise on price. I can't help you with that.

Might give it a miss. Ad also says 1 previous owner. Hpi check says 3!
Spec is dubious also. He said he is selling for his brother who has moved to Qatar...

Not sure the CSLs are OEM, no ///M badge and can't see if BMW is embossed either?

Not cheap enough IMO, but if you could get it cheaper and can see proof of repair and photos etc. then I would consider it.

EDIT: Read the additional comments, yes I'd be wary of the false information!

Also says fog lights. Which m do not have.
And doesn't mention cruise but has got it judging by pics.
Says high gloss trim but looks carbon trim to me!
Clearly he doesn't know a lot about it so don't trust the info re the crash and I'm not willing to fork out for a decent inspection at that price. Would have to be £13,5k I think being cat d. Just can't be bothered with potential issues!

New wing, headlight, door repair (including airbag) is £4k max (althought I don't know if the owner used an AMC with £500/day charges for 2 weeks), so why was it written off for what is supposedly only 25% of it's cost in repairs

I'd want photo's of the 'before' as well as the 'after' and would be expecting a fair few other bits on the repair certificate. If the repairs were not done by BMW then they're not covered by the 10/12/15 year bodywork warranty either.

Some bits now over 163,000 miles, some less than 1,000 miles.

CATD Is fine , but its over priced IMO I would be looking at 12k for a CAT should be around 20-25% below market value. The above info does not sound great tbh

It sounds dodgy as Paza 3 says cat d is fine. As long as you buy at the right price. This bloke just seems dishonest. And for that reason i am out!!
