Juddering Clutch

I have had a 2.2 litre Z4 from new....After a few months I noticed clutch judder starting off in first and moving off from junctions and islands in second. The dealer fitted a new clutch and flywheel under the warranty....The same thing happened again a few months latter. By this time I was having it seviced elswhere, but they put me in the same...again under warranty.
This means from new the car had had three clutches in under three years. An amazing feat as I have never been hard on clutches in over twenty years of driving. I have now decided to keep the car longer and it is now out of warranty. I have got used to the problem and just get round it with exra revs.... I have also worked out if I start off in 2nd to make it judder it seems to clear the judder for as long as that journey is.
Could this be condensation or oil on the clutch plate?
thanks for your time reading this....PT

I've had the same issue myself and had the clutch replaced yet it still occassionally judders in similar cirumstances to those you mention. The Dealer has subsequently looked at the car again several times and said the clutch was fine. I've now given up worrying about it and it does seem to be an issue with this particular model. I do remember another guy on here complaining about this issue and said his dealer was changing the flywheel. It would be interesting to know whether this has fixed his problem or not.

Never noticed it on the Z4 or Z3. But my dad's old 520i (I think it was a 1989, but not sure) had a similar problem: the BMW mechanic said they were having that issue since they quit using asbestos in the clutch. I don't know if BMW usis different clutch compund in US and Europe. Sorry I can't help much

Mine has recently had the clutch and flywheel replaced under warranty and touch wood so far the problem has not reoccured.

I don't know if this has any bearings to thus thread content, but my clutch on my 2 3 series is a lot better then the Z4's..I drive all but mostly the 325Ci and even the old 325is is better then the Z's clutch..
