Fingers crossed. What did they say when they looked at the new rim on the Z in the showroom?

Both mine had some scratching at the time, they tried the pothole stuff etc with me. I told them nicely that that was a load of codswallop and I expected two new rims when I came to pick up car from service. Both were new shiny ones
Unsure if new or old style 296 with different lip. I've not really bothered since.

You could be right, even when these scratches are not quite deep they will bring it up. Also because the warranty expert at BMW gets only pictures sent of the crack to judge :headbang:. But they have a case, one scratch and crack on the same position. I can not prove that if I had bought 293 wheels, the scratch would not result in a crack.

Did you already hear from them? I cannot believe they're getting away with this as it's quite obvious the design of the wheel has changed and it must have something to do with them cracking too easy.

I just had a call of my BMW dealer, the warranty request has been reject.

The most interesting part is BMW Netherlands is NOT aware about the new revised 296 wheel????

That sucks  These cars are rare here, I bet they don't get enough claims. Even in Germany it is a known issue http://www.zroadster.com/forum/index.ph ... 296.82654/ But also in Germany they have trouble getting them replaced under warranty. I don't know how your contact with your dealer is, but if they are helpful maybe you can mail them the forum links and the pictures of the old and new version so they might be able to put a bit of pressure on BMW NL?

If you can read Italian, I managed to find the same issues on an Italian BMW forum. One poster mentioned that BMW acknowledged the problem and said the later ones have been improved. But that was a post from 2011, don't know when the updated ones came?

My italian is pretty poor to be honest :D

All in all it must be a worldwide problem, so I can't believe BMW can get away with this.

My dealer advised to contact BMW directly with my findings. This is what I did, first by phone. They asked me to send an email (first line of support). So I have sent them a mail with my 296 story and pictures of the 2 rim revisions. To make a long story short, I have requested BMW to make a statement about the rim revision. If they refuse or get around it to answer my question, a lawyer will take over the case.

In the Netherlands around 600 E89’s are registered. Let's assume 20% has 296 rim and only 5% gets crack because of the very good road quality in the Netherlands, only 6 cars got an 296 issue in the last 2-3 years. I can imagine that BMW did not get triggered with these low numbers of issues.
So, I just wait. I hope I can expect some leniency.

Under warranty or did you have to pay for the new wheel?
