Best soft top cleaner/protectant

Post by sp3ctre » Sat Jul 07, 2007 12:00 pm

I have used the raggtopp stuff before and it's worked reasonably... problem being I don't have a garage so the protectant blows away if there is a slight breeze.

Last time I did it I used the BMW stuff, but also used the raggtopp spray too (don't ask why?!) and it worked really well... problem is, I don't know which caused the beading most, the BMW stuff, or raggtopp.

Besides that, I am more interested in the cleaning aspect... I have also considered the Autoglym kit as well, but never seen it in action. Have also hears good reviews of 303 products.

What do you guys use?

Only used the BMW stuff, which work really well. The BMW stuff should be mixed with water and applied with a sponge, is that how you did it, or were you spraying it on?

Both the BMW and Raggtopp are good products. I prefer the BMW for no reason other than I can pop down to my dealer and pick it up whenever I get the notion to clean and prep my top.

I'm a raggtop user too, it beads beautifully and cleans very gently and rinses quickly. I have a garage and it's hard to apply the sealant simply because the spray is so fine, but that is why you get such great coverage/sealing. I found getting closer to the top then reccommended helped alot, some will always be wasted though. I'm sticking with what works.

I use the Auto Glym kit, and love it. No idea if it is the easiest to apply, or the longest lasting, I just clean the roof twice a year, and apply the protector every 3 months, regardless if it needs it.

I guess you all mask up the paint work when using raggtopp.

Planning on doing mine for the first time this weekend, and tips would be appreciated.

hi hutch! Nah, I don't tape, I just make sure the car is cool like after a washing, and wipe off the windows with windex. I've never had any problems, it comes off with a little elbow grease so long as you don't wait too long. All in all, very easy :)
