Taking The Plunge.....

Post by bushy2812 » Mon Mar 14, 2011 1:18 pm

Hello all, I am the latest noob around here currently thinking very seriously about buying a Z4.

I was hoping I could get some advice on target prices, dealer discounts etc. I have gone to my local dealer and got some prices but I dont think they are particularly competitive to be honest....

So far I have been offered a non M Sport model custom built with a £4,000 discount off the £34k list price, although this includes £2k for not having the free sat nav option, so in my mind this is only a £2k dealer discount (6%) which doesnt seem great.

I have also been offered an already built car (not demo) which I am being offered £4.8k off the £36.5k list price. This one is an M Sport model. Again if you take off the £2k for not having the sat nav then that is only a 7.5% discount, and of course I am paying for some options in that car that I actually dont want because it is already built.

Am I right in thinking that I should be looking to get 9 to 10% discount from the dealer at the moment, plus any offers from BMW (free sat nav or £2k off)?

Someone in one of the dealers did let slip that they are struggling to sell them at the moment so I guess I am expecting a good deal.

I have asked my dealer to price up another option which is what I really want and will wait to see what they come back with. The car in question is:

Z4 sDrive 23 M Sport (white with red leather)
Sat Nav
Extended Storage
USB Audio Interface
Cruise Control
Parking Distance Control

Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

Got the revised figures back from local dealer, on the custom spec car they are offering the free sat nav and an extra £1.8k off a £36k car, so again a dealer discount of only 5%..... and interestingly only £200 better than the advertised deal on the BMW website!

Anyone know any dealers who actually want the business around the Gloucester - Bristol - Oxford - Birmingham location?

Try Cotswold BMW in Cheltenham or Rybrook BMW in Worcetser.
3.0si Z4 Coupe then an sDrive 35i Z4. Great cars, now gone. Range Rover Evoque owner now! :)

Thanks for the suggestion....

Cotswold BMW are who are providing me with the quotes at the moment. Does anyone have personal experience of getting a good deal here or at Rybrook?

You should be getting £5k off plus the nav thrown in too.

This deal is independent of BMW offers.

Thanks,

I have contacted Coast2Coast and got a quote. I think there stated £5k discount included the £2k you can have as a deposit contribution if you don't opt for the sat nav. Have asked the question and will let you all know.....

bushy2812, interesting.

The front page states "BMW Offers. All BMW Upgrade offers are available in addition to any discounts quoted" so hopefully you will be able to get free nav. Could understand if finance deposit wasn't covered though.

Let us know anyway, as you state

Uhmmm there must be an issue somewhere along the line. The list price of the car is £36k plus free sat nav and the Coast2Coast quote is just under £32.5k, representing a £3.5k discount (just under 10%).

Bit short of the number on the website.

Don't add the nav on in the quote as they will charge for it.

I've just ordered a 35i M Sport, and got 11.2% off including the Sat Nav, which I think is bloody brilliant. I wonder if discounts aren't as keen on the 23i as they probably shift more of them, just a theory.

Gone for....

Space Grey
Walnut Leather
Nav
Connectivty Package
Extended Storage
Professional HiFi
Parking Sensors
Heated Seats
Wind Deflector

Yes djtex, I think there is probably more discount to be had on bigger engined models.

Is there not going to be a new lineup later in the year, i.e. the sDrive 23i will be replaced with the sDrive 28i...? Just wondered if that's got anything to do with the discounts being offered at the moment.

bushy2812 , keep us posted on your order and good luck!

Wondermike, we might need to chat soon on SLK discounts... (200 vs 250) :D

Djtex.... that sounds like a great car! Sadly outside my budget or I would be right there.

Mmm seeing your kit list I might have to reconsider upgrading the speakers, are the standard ones that bad? Seemed a little flat (lack of bass) on the test drive but I didn't know if that was just the setup.

Wondermike, I have sent back an email asking for confirmation that the quote takes the free sat nav offer into consideration. I am hoping it is a mistake as at £5k off and free sat nav I will definately jump on that one.

I have been told that the car I am after should be delivered in May but not sure when. I get the feeling from speaking to lots of people that sales aren't that great at the moment so the wait may be shorter.

Anyone hear anything on the facelift and new engine? Would hate to get my car only to find a better one available in a few months.

Djtex, sorry forgot to ask who did you order it through? It might be worth contacting them as well.

Not sure if it is the model or the dealer that just doesn't want to cut their margins to be honest. They are trying all the normal sales tools and tricks...... sadly in my job I am responsible for sales and account management for a large organisation so I kind of see them a mile away.

Offer only available today..... no margin on this one just want to beat our quota...... just going to go and check with the manager and see if we can do a better deal...... No discount next quarter as it is approaching summer.....

Oh the fun!

bushy2812, think the new engine will be definitely this year. If that would bother you, it might be better to wait.
