a little teaser...

Post by Cheburator » Mon Nov 15, 2010 5:45 pm

A little bit of surgery... I promise, it did not hurt that much...

Beautiful, you cannot tell that it was not done by Joe at Spartanburg...

Tadaaa...

If you are nice to me I will post the fronts on Wednesday when I install them... Either way the kit fits like a glove. Cheaper than any other alternative and offers an unlimited choice of performance pads and OEM discs..

He, he, I knew it would generate a bit of interest... I am using 996 calipers front and rear with custom adapter brackets made on a CNC machine. Everything else stays standard - BMW OEM discs front and rear, BMW OEM brake lines front and rear. The only mod required is to cut away a tiny section of the rear dust shield and space the front wheels 15mm out with a hub-centric spacer. We have tried this kit on the G-Power Evo III Z3M Coupe which runs low 12s on street rubber. We also have the front kit on a CSL, which has done around 80 laps of the Ring with it in the very low 8s (rest of the car is bone stock including the suspension) and also done a round trip to Stelvio and back without issues.

Are they as good as AP 6-pots? The honest answer is almost... Does the kit cost anywhere near the AP's cost? No way... Does it cost anywhere near the AP's running costs? No, it doesn't - after all I am using OEM discs and pads fitted to a production Porsche from 1998 to 2008.

Can supply a complete kit or brackets... People are more than welcome to try it in my car once I have it all installed. I will be at Silverstone this Sunday (21st Nov)

Alex

how much for a complete kit???? will i need the spacer, im running gen CSL alloys? i think im going to come and see this kit @ silverstone!!! this could quite possibly save me a fortune ;-) so im guessing a square 4 pots front n rear?? I love the fact i keep my rotors n all my own hardware.... This is just what us ///m owners need!!! Great.

I like this.

Just to confirm, you are using standard BMW or Porsche discs?
Z4 3.0 SE, Manual, 108's, sat nav, heated seats, cruise, windbreak, Sterling Grey & Z3M Coupe, BBS LM's.

And the Porsche pads too :) You will need to space the front wheels by 12mm if you are running original CSLs. That's what we had to do on the E46 CSL, which first got the kit. Unfortunately, there is no escaping the crappy offset on the front wheels of our cars. Even if you fit AP Racing brakes or KW suspension, you would still have to space the front wheels out by a minimum of 12mm. Andy (sixspeed) and Rich both had to do it with theirs... As said before - this is almost as good as the AP kit, but ultimately, not a like for like match. Think of it as E46 M3 = standard brakes, Z4MC = Porsche Brembo kit, E46 M3 CSL = AP Racing 6-pots. You can buy a Z4MC 30% cheaper than a CSL, but the performance of ours is not 30% less, is it :)

One more time - the kit uses OEM discs and OEM length hoses and Porsche calipers/pads...

I am planning to keep the Porsche logos on the calipers, just so I can pee off the stealer when the car goes in next for warranty work :poke:

I've always wondered whether Porsche brakes would fit... Question is would it work for a non-M Z4... Specifically a 2004 3.0i SE? :?

Can you give us your driving impressions? Or point to someplace that a user has reviewed such a kit? These will not fit with the stock 18inch wheels right..?

Oh and another thing that just occurred to me, what about the brake pad sensors? Do the Porsche application brake pads come with those indentations for the re-installation of the pad sensors or what?
