Roof Closing then windows opening problem

Post by MikeS » Fri Jul 23, 2010 6:08 pm

I have started having a minor intermittent problem with the roof closing sequence on the car. Sometimes when I close the roof and the windows close one or both of them opens again by about 8 inches. (Yes I do wait for the light to come on and take my finger off of the button immediately.) This does not happen all of the time and sometimes it is just the driver's side or the passenger's side that is affected. The dealer took the car in for a couple of days and tried to 'adjust' the windows but the problem remains. Now they are contacting BMW for advice. Anyone else had this problem?

Yep I've had this happen quite a few times. Found that it happens if the battery has been disconected. I tend to then reset them by holding them down for 10 seconds to the bottom, then hold them to the top for a further 10 seconds. If this doesn't work try again.

Yes, I get this - sometimes the passenger window, sometimes the drivers and tonight it was actually both that went back down. I think its just the sensitivity of the anti-trap, maybe since the battery has been loaded more when the roof is closing.

To be honest it doesn't bother me and I just hit the roof close button again and they go back up! I wonder if it makes a difference if you use the "master" close window button on the door to put them up after the roof operation has finished? :?

Windows reset is in order I think.......

1. Turn on the ignition
2. Depress the individual window button until the window is open, then keep it pressed for 5 seconds longer.
3. Depress the window button until it is closed, then release.
4. This should reset the memory on the window.

Same procedure for both windows

I only use the roof close button to close the roof, then use "all windows" button to close all 4 windows.

Mine does it too, with the engine running and with it off. Not a big problem - I guess more of a feature.

Do you have to keep pulling on the all window button, or is it one touch?
On mine one touch only works when lowering them.

That's right one touch for lowering all 4 and you need to hold it to pull them all up.

I have no idea. What is a proper roadster? The fewer windows the better? :driving:

E92 coupe has 4 seats, but you can only open/close 2 front windows. E89 roadster has 2 seats, but it has 4 windows. Does anyone lower the rear windows when driving? I don't.

Mike: Can you only operate the front windows in your SLK (although it also has 4 windows)?

The battery has not been disconnected from the car and the windows worked fine until a few weeks ago. Just tried the 'window reset' idea or though if this really does anything I would have to wonder how. That said I opened and closed the roof twice all all worked OK!!! Will wait to see what happens next week. :o
