Popped in to order some parts at North Oxford BMW and they have a stunning silver Z8 for sale with only 34,000 miles (or there about) on it. Very, very nice indeed, had a good look around it. It was not cheap though!

I think they look fantastic, but the press at the time didn't seem to rate them and BMW struggled to sell them.

Very rare here, high price and all LHD probably didn't help. But looking at prices now anyone who took the plunge will be having the last laugh!

I was looking at this in the showroom last week. It’s so much nicer in person…. Stunning car!

Are they nice because they are nice, or just because they are rare and very expensive? :?
Personally I could think of many other cars I would rather have for the price of a house.

On the plus side, they have come down in price! They were demanding £200,000 plus a couple of years ago. :)

I don't understand why they suddenly rocketed in value. They were undesirable years ago.

What's changed?

I like how it looks in pictures. This week saw one in person and the bubble burst for me, not my cup of tea.

Again not a fan although great to see a Zed with an NA V8. Looks like an upsaled Z3.
For that money I would have a used AMG GTC and over £100k for whatever else but mainly fuel!

These were misunderstood. It was trying to be a 911 type super sports car more a point and squirt luxe roadster. And with this in mind they excel. The build quality is top drawer and the detailing exquisite. And a great M5 engine. I am still in the market for one of these when I reduce the fleet a bit. This one has been in north Oxford for years and is over-priced at that mileage. My dealings indicate that is now a 145k car. Admittedly it was a 200k car three years ago but times are hard. I will buy when 130k gets a 25,000 mile car. Interestingly, z8s fall into two categories - highly but nicely modified with mega mileages and original no mods cars. There is a real z8 scene and the cars can be modded to improve the suspension (hey usual on a bmw but to make it Alpina spec). Some people have several.

Because owners absolutely love them. They are minted though. Upkeep is not scrimped on these cars. But parts costs are huge. Eg allow sill cover (M part normally perhaps £70 a side - Z8 - £550 when available EACH. It neon rear lights - £2000 EACH. Deep pockets required.

I suppose there is a little bit of a James Bond factor in play.

I think I have only ever seen 4 in the wild, first was in 2007 at BMW UK and of course theirs was mint. Next time was more than a decade later at a local pub meet. That was also a one owner car, but was getting towards 100K miles and it showed!

There was a smart one at BMW Somerfest at Donington in 2022 then last year there was an Alpina at a Pistonheads event at Bicester.

And while I'm not generally a fan of Roadsters I think they look so good I might be able to make an exception for a Z8, especially if it had a hard-top.

But at those prices it's purely academic.

I recall Mr Bond also had a Z3. :D Until some one split it with their big chopper.
