Extended warranty

Post by Z4 Beemer » Sat Nov 21, 2009 5:12 pm

Apologies for this being slightly off topic, and I know that extended warranties will be only worth considering in around 30 months from now, but since I might actually keep this new Z4 for more than 3 years, I just wondered what the BMW Comprehensive cover warranty might actually cost on it.

The reason I ask is that a letter has just come in from BMW regarding my December 2006 325i coupe (E92) - the car I actually traded in when I bought new Z4. The annual price they quoted for Comprehensive cover (highest possible) with £100 excess and Emergency Services was £427. I actually thought this was quite reasonable and if the Z4 was the same sort of price, I would definitely go for it if I am going to keep the car past 3 years. Any thoughts on this?

Not sure what the Zed insurance is but the 325i sounds reasonable especially if your doing above average mileage. Can't imagine there would be much difference.

Yeah I wouldn't have thought it would be much more than that, and well worth it for that kind of money.

I recently visited my local dealer regarding extended warranties and this is what I found out here in California...

To extend the BMW Maintenance Program from 4/50k to 6/100k would cost $2095.00

To extend to the Powertrain Plus Gold 6/100k would cost $2530.00 or Platinum (adds coverage for radio/CD/Nav) $2800.00

This same Powertrain Plus Gold for 7/70k would cost $2630.00, Platinum $2910.00

There were other options for 5/100k and 7/100k but I did not ask, too shocked at the other prices and I had the idea it would be costly.

Sounds like it could be considerably lower cost in the UK or perhaps the coverage is not too good?

Anyone out there (especially in the US) that can compare prices with the quotes I received above? Also, the dealer said the extended warranty program has changed slightly. Before, you could wait until the day before the standard 4/50k warranty expired to decide on an extension. Now, you have until month 45 or 45k to decide.

If anyone has any advice on the warranty extension or uses an aftermarket company (non-BMW) I would be interested to know your experience.

TIA

I should add that I have a 06 3.0si roadster.
