Amarone Colour Code

Post by Barty » Wed Apr 10, 2024 4:14 pm

As per the title: does anyone know the exact colour code (or even better, the mix values) for Amarone?

j3nks79, thanks for that! Will give them a shout. If someone knows the mix ratios that’d be brilliant, but I fully understand that it’s a long shot at best

I’m pretty certain they will know the colour code.

Hi Barty. Amarone is my favourite leather colour too. I’ve been keeping an eye out for an Amerone interior for sale, but I guess that’s pretty unlikely! Maybe one day….

You could colour the seats but i just wanted to point out that they won’t look exactly the same as the original Amerone leather because you are using a paint which sits on top of the leather, rather than a dye which works with the leathers natural colour. That said the furniture clinic products are good and do a great job. I darkened the colour on some Fiat coupe seats which I put in a Dolomite Sprint and was really happy with the finish after sanding, filling, and four coats. It was an enjoyable little project so good luck to you if you decide to go for it

Thanks AdyBish
I’ve had the pleasure of recolouring and revitalising a few sets of seats by now, and what you say is mostly true; it depends on the type of leather though. Aniline leathers are dyed through and through during the processing phase, while the fine-grain nappa leather like we have in most of our Zeds (such as Dakota leather) is actually “painted” after primary processing. This means the factory colour already sits on top of the leather itself and is locked in with a durable top coat.

With that in mind, I set about removing that original top coat today, as well as sanding back the colour layer. Mind, I had two sets of seats to do: for MaldivesMax and myself. Max’ seats started like this:

And after a lot of work ended up like this:

Absolutely chuffed with the result, and I really hope Max will be too!

Then, it was time for my seats. While I LOVE Amarone, I decided to give it a twist. A final mix recipe was decided on, comprising of 7 different colours, including a slight dash of deep purple, as a nod to Project PDM. A first look:

Over the moon with how this came out. Second seat sometime this week, and then into the car just before Wales :driving:

Good work Sir!

I see you are already an experienced leather colourist! Looking forward to seeing how your seats turn out. Interesting that you say the original Amerone seats are painted from factory. I just assumed it was a dyed leather hide that was then treated and sealed for some reason.

I will find a set for my car one day. Possibly someone who doesn’t want their Amerone interior will want to do a deal with me for my black interior? It’s nice to dream…. :D

Ah, my old car!
Lovely thing and in the 12 years I owned it, the interior was the talking point on so many occasions. Great choice Barty

I can fully imagine! Amarone just looks so special. We were gobsmacked by how good it looked in the flesh once the first parts were done. To be continued tomorrow evening, while the seatbacks are also getting a special treatment 8)

Watching with interest Barty (here and on Insta). You have a great eye for detail and the mods/enhancements are really classy.
Brilliant work!
