Help purchasing an E89

Post by ori » Fri Mar 15, 2024 1:45 pm

Dear all,

My young friend is after an E89. His first z4 and he needs as much help as possible. I blame myself for his desire for a zed. ;)

He’s after a 3 litre model.

I’m going to send him a link to this post and get him to join the forum.

Thanks in advance guys.

Help purchasing an E89

Post by DJM_1706 » Fri Mar 15, 2024 7:07 pm

Hi all,

Looking for my first z4 as ori said. Was offered the chance to buy an E89 30i M Sport but the guy has now decided he wants to wait another year. Waited since November but now I don’t think I can wait much longer as they just look too good.

Looking for an M Sport 30i but would consider looking at 23/28i. Ideally I want an auto, but unfortunately not a fan of the red leather. Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers

Welcome..colour preferences?
We choose to go to on with this endeavour at this time and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard…

I know a banana yellow Zed totally tricked out. Every mod and then some. Rumour is it hasn't even left the garage in the last 6 months.

You and most others; the reason why they are so 'rare'.
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

F31 320i. Good car.
E89 20i Now fully dried
Z3 'free litre'. Project and a half. Complicated!
Mazda3 sold
Tatty old R56 Mini Cooper. Money pit!

Hi, if you decide on a 23i, mines an Alpine white SE auto but with heated black Msport seats/ Msport steering wheel (new style paddles and refurbished by Royals), 19" 326M alloys on Goodyear Eagle F1s, iDrive, PDC, extended leather, Weathertec boot liner. 38k on clock, owned it 9 years, its had 7 services (6 BMW + 1 specialist) garaged and used only in the summer. Just flew through its MOT with no advisories.

Welcome to the forum. Not sure if you’ve checked the link to my 30i in Zed Barons post above, it’s black and not an M Sport, but it is an auto and does not have red leather. I also started out looking for an M-Sport version but ultimately decided the “right car” in terms of service history, owners and condition was more important. Having owned mine for about 4 years my advice would be to compromise on the slight difference in body shape rather than the engine. You’ll find out in time that we argue about pretty much everything on here…. but there is general agreement that the 3 litre version of the N52 engine in the Zed is an absolute beauty.

Red is by far the best colour for a sports car.... Ferrari jumped on the bandwagon years ago!

Thanks guys. Knew I could rely on you to help a young chap get his first zed.

I quite like the yellow. It’s rare!
