Intermittent steering fault

I have a 2011 E89 and my steering rack has been re-calibrated and over 99% of the time works perfectly.
But now on two separate occasions it has gone into fault while doing exactly the same maneuver.
I have a very tight driveway and when reversing up it with most of the proximity alarms going crazy the steering has faulted, I can turn off the engine, wait a few moments and restart the car and the fault has gone, has anyone experienced the same phenomenon?

Bizarrely mine (2010 35i) has just started doing this intermittently. I assume it's a dodgy ground. Keen to hear others exp.

Update:
The status of the steering rack changed yesterday from intermittent fault to permanent, the drive motor gave up the ghost.
So now faced with replacing the rack with either after market or reconditioned because the price of a new one here in Malaysia is over the top completely, easy choice though the after market option is nil stock.

Update my end.

Steering motor fault still intermittent. Does not prevent driving of the car. Had it checked out at the local indy (top guy). Wiring and grounds are all solid and fine.

I suspect I need to get the motor refurbished or replaced.

Dear Forum…….. any tips

I ended up getting the rack refurbished here in Malaysia, the cost was RM3300 which is equivalent to 550 UK pounds.

Fingers crossed now that I won't have anymore steering problems.
