What is this thing that fell off my car??

Post by WayOfTheGinja » Thu Feb 15, 2024 11:45 am

My wife just sent me this picture saying it was where my car was parked this morning (I managed to drive to work without whatever it is!)

Anyone know what it might be? Looks like it’s about an inch long.

Its a 'tek' screw..used to hold metal sheeting together or to hold a metal sheet to a metal purlin..nothing to do with any car..unless you are / or a friend was a real bodger.. :tumbleweed:
We choose to go to on with this endeavour at this time and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard…
A very modified Atacama Yellow 35is

Fantastic news! No bodging here - my local indy is not that dodgy (I think).

So this was more likely to have been dropped by our builders I assume and rolled under my car. I’m glad it didn’t find its way into a tyre.

Although heaven alone knows what they were attaching to what with that. I don’t think there’s any metal sheeting in our garage build…

Judging by the big rubber washer it was used to screw down rigid plastic sheets at one time. The rubber washer keeps the rain out!

Put some on my Fiesta a few weeks ago to hold an aftermarket undertray as the supplied screws were too small

Looks like screw holding exhaust shields on. I had one fall off years ago.

As B21 said it’s a self drilling sheeting screw for roofing.

Ok if that’s how you want it….B21 said it before you, AND pointed out they’re used for metal purlins which is correct due to the self drill tip.

You didn’t mention that….. :poke:

The bare metal head versions were good…The ones with colour matched plastic tops over the hex head were always a bit trickier…strip them on the way in and then you had to wrestle the colour cap off with mole grips….to then back them out..

Should have stuck with that business…but that’s another story..
