Z4m front adjustable top mounts
Hi all, I am about to refresh the whole suspension on my m and have kw v3 but want to get some adjustable camber plates for it. My options are vorshlag, ground control or possibly Millway as Millway don’t offer a Z4m specific plate so was going to try the e46 m3 plate. I’d prefer the Millway plates over the other two as the build quality and longevity far exceeds the other two listed. Has anyone done this on your cars?
I did find a member that stated on an old thread his car had pss10 with Millway top mounts but I don’t believe he’s active now as I messaged him over a month ago with no reply
Thanks

Don't fancy the kW top mounts? They'd be plug and play, and I think they're as adjustable as the others mentioned? As mentioned above, Beedub should be able to help, he has kW clubsport which I believe are just v3s with fancy top mounts

Thanks for the replies, the clubsports use a linear spring which is smaller at the top than the v3 and I don’t know what the kw top mounts are like for reliability, all I know is when I spoke to hack engineering they strongly advised against getting ground control as people have needed new bearings within 6 months

I think the clubsports will still work for you , excellent quality pieces , solid uni all construction with rubber covers. They can be abit clunky when they get hot but perform really well.... Visible in this pic of you zoom to the right.
Fyi kw supplied the suspension for the M3 gts and the M4 gts which was basically the CS ( maybe different valving from the off the shelf stuff ).

Not to mention KW is massively involved with bmws in endurance racing at the ring and elsewhere - they undoubtedly have a strong understanding of what is needed to make bmws go fast...!
Also a side note - looking at Beedub's car, the protrusion through the strut top hole is smaller than my intrax, meaning theoretically more camber/caster is achievable with the KWs than with mine. Irritating

Do you know if you can get adapters to work with the progressive spring as the top of the spring is bigger than the clubsport version. I went with kw as when I was thinking of changing vehicles last summer I test drove an m2c and although it was terribly boring in comparison to the m coupe to drive it had the optioned m performance suspension which is a kw v3 kit and that’s the only part of the car that impressed me.

Not discrediting Hack, but they sell Millway...so not surprised they want to push those. Having said that, sure they are fine, probably overpriced mind
Any of the above I'm sure would be fine, I personally went for Ground Control, can't remember why exactly but all seemed much of a muchness. No bearing issues after 4 years and plenty of track days, know of a few others running them on other cars and also no issues. Whichever one you plumb for doesn't hurt to get the reinforcement plates put in at the same time

i have definitely seen the CS top mount used on the V3, its the same damper anyway , i just cant remember if they used an adapter or a hyperco coil set (cheap as chips). If you can get these to work however the quality and construction really is beautiful.InterlagosMC wrote: ↑Wed Jan 17, 2024 9:48 pm Do you know if you can get adapters to work with the progressive spring as the top of the spring is bigger than the clubsport version. Thanks for the information, I’ll definitely look into these as a viable option, we don’t have many for the Z4MBeedub wrote: ↑Thu Jan 18, 2024 5:25 pmi have definitely seen the CS top mount used on the V3, its the same damper anyway , i just cant remember if they used an adapter or a hyperco coil set (cheap as chips). Good to hear positive feedback about ground control, hack engineering we’re happy to order the ground control items and they work out around the same money so it’s down to build quality and function. I know Millway parts are very well made and they offer more camber adjustment on the street version than ground control street version as I will be using the car more and more for track use but currently fast Road and light track workAndyBeech wrote: ↑Thu Jan 18, 2024 3:09 pm Not discrediting Hack, but they sell Millway...so not surprised they want to push those. One thing to factor in, the top mounts might be able to physically adjust across a wider range, but depending on your coilover choice the piston top nut will protrude through the strut top hole and that hole will limit how much adjustability you'll get in practice. I'd be surprise if by of the top mounts give less than the amount permitted by that strut top hole in practice!
Pics below of my (old and shagged and now replaced with new and shiny!) intrax topmounts show how much adjustability they have, and the reality of what you're limited to once they're on the car!

YUP the z4m strut tower opening is painfully small, i used some vacumn tubing to protect it, i got a much camber as i could uptop and had to use a shim on the bottom as well as the full range just isn't achievable up top UNLESS you want it so its not adjustable and do it with the damper off the car which seemed pointless to me! however with the clubsport top mount you can get around 70% of the range from the top due to the small inner plate to do the actual adjustment. The piston nut is not in the way on the CS as it has a flat top.Ed Doe wrote: ↑Thu Jan 18, 2024 8:11 pm One thing to factor in, the top mounts might be able to physically adjust across a wider range, but depending on your coilover choice the piston top nut will protrude through the strut top hole and that hole will limit how much adjustability you'll get in practice.
