What to do 🤔

Post by Fireball » Sat Dec 30, 2023 4:02 pm

A good while ago I asked regarding tuning my 2010 23i manual, remapping giving a useful (ish ) power increase of around 20 bhp. I shelved the idea at the time while I pondered the alternatives, these being F type ( both V6 and 8 versions ,), Boxster or something else to scratch the V8 itch. Love the sound of a TVR but also like being able to think that when I want to go out the car will start , stop and get me home and does require something rebuilding every year which is not the experience a couple of my TVR owning mates have.

So here I am again wondering whether to get the 23i remapped etc. I do enjoy the 6 cylinder whine so perhaps I should stick with it. Celtic tuning and Superchips coming to mind for a tune.
Seen mixed reviews for Celtic, Superchips seem to generally have very good feedback and for January 2024 there is a half price offer on. £225 seems like a good deal.

Any experiences and / or any other reputable tuners out there ?

Happy New Year to you all.

Had my 30i tuned by Celtic a little while back with positive results. You won't gain any noticeable increase in power but it alters the torque curve, throttle mapping etc. which makes the car better to drive, more responsive. On the 23i you should see similar results.

Superchips are like DFS and Carpetright, they have had a discount every month for at least 3 years! Good company, though. Owned by 'remap kings' since 2020.
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

F31 320i. Good car.

What Silverstar says is what I have often read about remaps on N/A BMWs.

Don't expect any significant power gain, but if you think it's worth doing for better responsiveness then why not go for it?
Coupes because stunning!

As silverstar and mr tidy say , small power gain , but if you keep the car the torque curve will be noticeable. I had this dilemma with my e85 , to map or replace.
A trip in stuarts e89 35i was enough to make me decide. So what I’m saying, is , you will benefit from test driving the cars on the wish list to see what your heart tells you. I only had the e89 a few months and had THAT remapped be Celtic , that’s near 6 years ago with no problems. That doesn’t mean it’s bombproof , just my own experience. Hope this helps you

For £220 it’s well worth going for it imho, it’s a few tanks of fuel and may make you fall in love again, albeit possibly briefly, but either way you’ve more to gain than lose I think. Even if you change cars completely you’ll have ticked a box and won’t be wondering if you should have, or should go back to a Zed to try it with potentially a lot more outlay all things considered.

I know you want speed some cash to tune, but try what i did one of those throttle adapters.
Gaining 20hp is like having empty fuel tank.

Or do as I’ve done and do both!

Had mine done by Superchips (Remap Kings) about 3 years ago.
Very happy with the install, and had no issues ever since.

Car was much improved by the extra punch!
Z3 rare 2L Straight 6. Should have kept it!
E85 3.0Si sold back in 2014. Should have kept it!
E89 20i just arrived 2021
