Pre set buttons

Good evening - can anyone advise on how to set the buttons 1-8 for favourite phone contacts , never had problems on any of my privileges models , my daughter has cleared out all previous owners ( pre sets) , however will now not assign ?

Are you connected to the cars BT with your phone, or android auto/carplay?

I think you can only assign buttons to phone numbers if connected to car only via BT, not if using android auto/carplay.
