TPM Failure

Post by sars » Mon Nov 13, 2023 8:52 pm

Damn & blast, so I received a Tyre Pressure Monitor (TPM) failure today, which hasn't cleared, even after a tyre pressure reset. I fitted my winter wheels at the beginning of November and have done a good 500 miles with no issue, left home to drive to Bristol, reading 2.3 bar of pressure in all wheels, stopped for fuel before getting to the motorway and after a few minutes of restarting journey got the TPM failure message as below.

Question, is this an issue with the module on the car or the sensors? If one sensor fails does it default to this error message? This would seem illogical as how would you know which wheel sensor had failed?

Anyone had a wheel sensor fail?

Never had this problem Sars, in either of my G29s. My first one used to (correctly) give me a nudge when pressure dropped by 0.2 bar or so.

Have you done a manual pressure reading on the tyres?

Yes, I completed a reset after the first warning, it got stuck at 49% and then the same warning appeared and which now comes every time I start the car.

As I'm presently in Bristol, gave Dick Lovett a ring and tried to book it in to have it looked at, earliest appointment was 14 December! Tried Vertu BMW in York and also told earliest appointment was mid December, however York told me to ring BMW assistance to see if they would come and complete a diagnostic, which they declined to do and instead issued a referral to BMW Bristol. Waiting for a call back from Dick Lovett.

Update - I've been referred by BMW assistance to my local dealership (Dick Lovett Bristol) as a drive in appointment, so will be heading in Thursday for quick scan of the fault. However, they have no curtesy car available until January........

There is something wrong with BMW and their dealers, I have to wait four weeks for an appointment on a warranted fault and two months if I want to borrow a car.

Is this my last BMW?

Seems like every garage is maxed out with no concept of emergencies…

Volvo three weeks lead time

Mini three weeks lead time

Range Rover six weeks ..the latter for vehicle off road…
We choose to go to on with this endeavour at this time and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard…

Same issue here getting someone to look at my car with an engine start failure. 2 weeks for an appointment at Berry Thames Ditton. Berry Cobham earliest was December and Berry Croydon was January. This is for a fault where my car can leave me stranded. This is not good service. If my car is asking for immediate assistance I would hope the dealer network could deliver it.

So I’ve never had the tps issue.
If bmw assist referred you to the dealer that have to see and diagnose the car within 48 hours, and if they can’t then bmw assist have to give you a loan car.

If I were you, I would ask them to look at the steering issue at the same time.

Took the car into Dick Lovett as requested by BMW assist and explained the issue, no one available to run a diagnostic, however they want the car for the whole day but can't give me a loan car! Service guy stated that if one sensor failed the whole system stops working as they are all linked (seems both strange and stupid as the only way to determine which sensor is faulty is to run a full diagnostic) or it could be the TPM module. As I have my winter wheels on, with non BMW sensors, elected not to waste a day and will swap wheels again at the weekend to prove which is faulty.

Good plan as no matter what is wrong, it will be due to third party products so no warranty, therefore £200 diagnostic fees etc etc
