E85 3.0i Manual

Post by Andrew J » Sun Nov 12, 2023 9:48 pm

Evening all,

After being out of the Z4 convertible game for a few years (had an E89 28i in sapphire black but had to give it up in 2017 for an imminent new arrival), I'm looking for a return to the fold. Currently on the look out for a manual E85 3.0i. Colour preference would be a black or dark grey (sterling or space grey however space grey might be just a facelift colour?).

Talking of options, preferably sat nav or professional/business radio, heated seats and 18" alloys however these certainly aren't deal breakers.

In terms of mileage, around 60-100k with decent service history or proof of maintenance and service work if done by home mechanic. Higher mileage cars up to say 120k I would consider but it would be condition dependant at this mileage as I've viewed some around this mileage and they were interesting let's say!

My location is North East England however I can travel to see cars.

Thanks for reading and look forward to speaking to some folks  .

neo beat me to it! Here's a link to his advert anyway:- viewtopic.php?t=143002

Most people these days prefer cars without Sat Nav as it's pretty hopeless TBH!

Good luck finding the right one.
Coupes because stunning!

Don’t waste your time with satnav, it’s the thing that ages the car the most. For a roadster, heated seats are a must, upgraded (hi-fi or hi-fi professional) hi-fi is a definite plus, and Xenon headlights (not brilliant, but the basic halogens are carp). Everything else (except some of the specialist trims) is pretty easy to retrofit.

To be honest, I quite like the retro interface it has (as weird as it sounds). The sat nav functionality isn't what was swaying me as a preferred option. I have seen the threads where people have cut the dash to fit but I don't think I'd be that brave. Certainly agree on the stereo that it would be nice to have the upgraded one. My daily 320d at the minute has the standard stereo and podcasts are fine, music not so much! The car wouldn't be a daily however so I'm not glued to having an amazing stereo as the m54 would be my stereo for the most part :driving:

My current Z4 has the Nav and the only thing I find useful is I can have the time, outside temperature, average mpg and fuel range on one screen instead of having to scroll through them on the OBC display on the dash!

And as I have the Carver stereo the Nav has a graphic equaliser that I have used once in almost 4 years. But I haven't used the stereo much either because I love the S54 soundtrack too much. :D

E85 3.0i Manual

Mine might only be the 2.2 version but the car sound is amazing, in 2 years of ownership I’ve probably only listened to the CD player about 3 times, radio never.
Now, Sterling grey Z4 2.2 with cup holders, stubby aerial and sport seats. Roadsters ‘cause they’re great with the roof down.
Ford Anglia, Red Sprite, a few MG midgets, MGB Roadster and yellow Ford Capri, all gone many years now.

True, but it's still an M54.

I hardly ever used the stereo in my previous Z4s because the N52 sounded great in them as well.

But I do use it in my 3 Series because the N52 in that is way too refined for my liking so you can hardly hear it!

The 23i and 30i E89s had the N52 engine, but I don't know how much noise suppression they had.

Probably more than the E85/86 though as E89s were more of a GT than a sports car.

Definitely more sound deadening in the e89. I drove a 23i before I got the 28i and it wasn't as loud as an e85. Still a nice sound just more refined, a bit like the car really.

Hi Andrew 3,
Are you still in the market for an E85 3.0 Manual roadster?
I'm looking to sell my 2006 "extended leather" midnight blue with champagne leather 3 litre 6 speed manual roadster in the new year but if your still interested it might be worth a chat.
Kind Regards
John
