Powder coating white.....!

Seriously thinking of getting my wheels powder coated in white, but have reservations about how they will fare with chips and brake dust marks, etc.

Has anyone ever had powder coated white wheels? Was it a good idea, or not?

Back in the mid-80s a work colleague bought a brand new white Capri 2.8 Injection Special and had the bumpers and wheels done in matching white.

I've no idea if the wheels were painted or powder coated, but he certainly managed to ruin a good car!

But it's not like your Honda is a looker anyway. :P

Didn’t that happen with the 440 as well? Changing the wheels and selling the car 5 minutes later.

Mark my words …

oh FFS! I should have known!

It's not about ME and my penchant for extremely good cars; it's about how durable white powder coating would be.

They are gold now ffs, it's not exactly a huge jump in tastelessness! :)

On a side note: there is a black sapphire E86 Si that lives just a few hundred yards from me. When my wife and I were going out yesterday, it drove past. I pointed it out to her and told her it is a Z4 (as she is still mourning the E89 TBH). She said "it looks like a Porsche". Then said "but it is nowhere near as pretty as mine was".

Make of that what you will! :)

She's right - I don't like black either!

Ladies generally only choose cars by colour anyway.

Oh she isn't! How a squat, ugly little BMW hatchback could resemble a Porsche of any model is pushing it! :poke:

No she really is, and she has your MaxPower Honda as a point of reference after all!

I can't think of a Porsche I have ever liked for its looks. Admired for it's engineering sometimes maybe, but they don't always get that right. IMS bearings and bore-score spring to mind!

356s look like chopped Beetles, Boxsters looked like "push me pull you" toys, Caymans just had an ungainly roof fitted, Cayennes were mingers and Macans were a variation on that theme, Panameras were more of the same, a bit like a Cayenne that had melted. :fuelfire:

She does really hate my Honda, with an unhealthy passion!

If only people could get over the looks; cos they are truly fantastic cars to drive. The engineering thought and dedication to making a car good is something the Germans (all of them) can only dream of nowadays!

Decades of fixing abused (mostly by me) Japanese motorbikes that were design masterpieces but held together with cross-head bolts made from soft cheese put me off anything from the land of the rising sun!

Fun fact, I was actually 21 when I did it to the wheel covers on my Ka  I did not have anything to loose, wanted to see if for less than a tenner I could make the OEM covers smart and match the black and white interior.
As for the Fiesta, well it seems I did not mature enough at that stage and went for it again when I had the set of wheel and tyres for £140... :driving:
