Bugs from hell

Post by beanie » Sun Aug 13, 2023 6:52 pm

For some reason, my car seems to attract the most stubborn bugs I’ve ever known. I’ve just spent today trying to get rid of them but it was an unbelievable effort for what should be relatively simple.

This was the ridiculous process I endured

AF citrus and meguiars products which barely touched them.
Mild bilthamber clay x2 rounds - slight improvement
Hand polish - slight improvement but left a little marring
AF citrus again - meh
DA polish and menzerna - finally shifted the swines and without damage

The car was given a coating of wax a while ago but it doesn’t seem to help beyond the first wash or 3. I’m sure washing the car after every drive would help no end but unfortunately this just isn’t realistic.

Any wonder products or tips you could share as I don’t think my clear coat will continue to take kindly to being machine polished every month!

Using a polishing machine and autoglym super resin polish does the trick for me

I put kitchen roll on them and soak it and let it soak in for a few hours. It re-hydrates the bugs and then they can be washed off.

That’s a good collection!

The problem I’ve had is when they get baked on. I don’t seem to have much issue getting the bodies and bits off but the guts and blood, that’s another matter

I think I’ll try the kitchen roll, it’ll take some planning as the car is a fair old distance from our apartment but it’s an excuse for a lazy, coffee-filled morning I suppose :D

Auto Express did a product test on Bug Cleaners in 2021 results here
https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/car-care/ ... aners-2021
I have had a can of spray, can't remember the Brand that sits on the shelf for a few years, only gets used as and when required its the foaming type and has worked for me when used. Probably comming to the end of the can now so will try one of the Auto Express tested products, probably the Halfords Brand at £6 but will check out what else they have and use my Trade Card for some discount.

Why would you do that? That is far too simple, cheap and effective for a 'car' forum.

What you really want is a proverbial 'sledgehammer to crack a walnut' approach; £300 worth of expensive 'products' (not the cheap crap from Halfrauds of course) for every bug residue, electric polishers and then a full respray. Then do it all again tomorrow!

I wouldn't be surprised if there is a separate 'product' for each species of bug TBH.

Sorry being flippant, but seriously people....

I need to add that the kitchen towel needs to be triple layered Waitrose but preferrably Harrods, moistened with destilled water only ... :P

Two words......

BABY WIPES

pre-moistened and are the best things ever invented for cars (in fact in general IMO). Plus I flush them down the bog after as I like to make the water board work for the extortionate amount of money I give them!

If the 'Meguairs' people read this they will start selling it at £1.50 a sheet (and people will buy it)! :poke: :P
