Petrol prices have shot up again!

Post by Pondrew » Fri Aug 11, 2023 10:31 pm

I noticed at my local Sainsbury's that unleaded has jumped from £1.36 (.9 of course) to £1.46 (.9) almost overnight.

I was driving through Cambridgeshire (A roads) last night and noticed the average was £1.51 (.9) for normal E10 at branded garages.

I stopped at a Shell garage as it was 'touch and go' whether I would have enough juice to get home. I thought I would put a splash of V-Power in the little Honda just to see if it was as good as they claim. It does seem to make a difference (maybe placebo effect) but not enough at £1.73 (.9) a litre! :o

£7.90 a gallon! :o :x

This is NOT going to help inflation fall, is it? :x
No wonder everything costs so much. Nothing like rife profiteering on a massive scale!

I noticed the same this week.

Last week my local Tesco was £1.409 a litre, yesterday it was £1.489 - with the usual 7p a litre extra for Momentum.

I was out for the day on Wednesday and needed a top-up to get home. Stopped at an Esso showing £1.499 per litre, but Synergy was £1.699! So I just put in enough to get to my local Tesco.
Coupes because stunning!

I always use Shell V Power but the cars don’t go far at present… I’m hoping it’s doing them good but who really knows??

No it was the one by the roundabout on the A428/ A1198 near Cambourne. I was heading toward Huntingdon on the A1198 to pick up the new bit of A14 as the traffic on the M11 after Cambridge was horrendous. I had just dropped the family off at Stansted.

The only problem I had was that the sat/nav in my 'chav mobile' is bloody rubbish. I nearly ended up in Sandy to pick up the A1, which was going South West to go North East! As is usually the case with a detour, it probably cost me more time and £20 in petrol!! :D

137.7 for unleaded and 139.7 for diesel at my local Asda…but another not far away is 7p/l more expensive.

They now show the price on the store websites.

About a 6p or 7p increase around here also, in the last week.

Perhaps they think the bad publicity the supermarkets got for profiteering has subsided.

A combination of the cost of oil increasing, $85/barrel and the pound weakening against the US dollar. It’s £1.539 near me!
The Government did intimate that there was evidence of collusion between retailers and was talking about enforcing mandatory publishing of forecourt pricing, let’s hope that happens soon

I noted last week it was 135.9 at my local Sainsbury's but one a few miles away was at 144.9

Again - up straight away but will fall like a feather, makes the electric DS a no brainer - £2.20 to charge for 160 miles.

The Govt should jump all over any profiteering if it is happening.

The rise in petrol prices will increase inflation for August and more importantly September. It's the September figure that determines pension increases for next year. A higher figure will cost the Govt millions extra in pension payments.

As a pensioner must declare an interest and not complaining if inflation increases a little over the next month. :)
