I have a test drive in a very early BN4 today, so that will give me an idea. It’s not the version I’m after, as I think I’d go for a late BN8. At least it will give me an idea of the driving experience. Watch this space…

Now, Sterling grey Z4 2.2 with cup holders, stubby aerial and sport seats. Roadsters ‘cause they’re great with the roof down.
Ford Anglia, Red Sprite, a few MG midgets, MGB Roadster and yellow Ford Capri, all gone many years now.

Well, I test drove a very Healey (100/4) yesterday, but only in the passengers seat!
Firstly, the top of your head sits above the windscreen, which makes you wonder how many owners have hit their heads due to an emergency stop!
It feels like you’re in a very early fairground tin car that’s extremely enclosed, especially with the hood up. I’m not sure if the last Healey’s of the production line were more roomier, but I’m guessing they are especially with a 2+2 seating arrangement.
If I was to buy one, it would be a MK3, as additional comfort extras were added with the addition of wind up windows too!
It sits closer to the ground and even makes the Z4 looks large, but dare I say the ride is more comfortable than the zed, and handles well over potholes and lumps and bumps in the road. There is definitely scuttle shakes, but this all adds to the charm and enjoyment of these cars.
The downside is the continual maintenance, and not a lot of parts are not available anymore on the very early models.
Will I buy one…
I definitely love all the nostalgia that comes with these, and the ride was extremely good. I’m sorely tempted, but looking and getting back in the Z4, made me realise how special these are. They’re definitely a future classic, so I’m putting the Healey on hold for now and will continue to enjoy the Z4!

I’m glad it’s not only me who came to the same sort of conclusion.
You don't stop playing when you get old - You get old when you stop playing!
So I bought a 35is with all the toys to play with.

Lovely looking car with the graphite 18" wheels off of the M3 E90/E92.
£30k seems to be a good price to go for, with the mileage at sub 40k as well and full service history..

That is the whole point for me too.
An old classic British car would be lovely (I considered it too recently. Stags, Spitfires etc) but only if you can afford to keep it for those very rare drives on a Summer's day, maybe twice a year, or take it to shows. I ruled them out as I am too much of a worrier. I know I would never drive a classic as I would be too scared it wouldn't get where I wanted to go, let alone back.
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

I had the Morgan itch that needed to be scratched.
The five mile test drive scratched it nicely and my E85 felt like a limo’ in comparison
There’s no doubt that I find the old cars very attractive but I can’t contemplate bothering with a test drive with a view to buying ever again .,
My head is back in charge again!

Same as me, I’d be worried all the time about breaking down. If would have to be extremely short rides and not too far from home!Pondrew wrote: ↑Wed Jun 28, 2023 6:51 pmThat is the whole point for me too.

On the plus side, though, you don't need a code reader! But you do need a local garage who know about old cars, which are getting fewer and more expensive. I have a few around here, but they charge a fortune because they know they can!

I know, it’s all those hidden expenses that catch you out.
I’ll wait until I win the lottery and revisit that itch!

That's great that you intend to keep. It's a fabulous looking car with really low miles.
I'm also in a position where I've owned mine for 15 years and it's also sub 40k miles, and am wondering if it's time to move on but then I look at it and drive it and think no, she's still a keeper!
