Is there any point?

Post by r2uzenblot » Mon May 29, 2023 1:40 pm

Just got my insurance renewal quote which is for a new Z4 in a few weeks time (2.0). It's gone up by 25% from last year to £375. Checked on the IAM site, as I am a member, and their cheapest was over £400. Is there any point in me spending ages looking around? I'm happy with LV but it's the 25% increase that is bugging me. By the way I'm in my sixties still................ with no claims or convictions.

Have you tried confused.com etc? The trouble with insurance is that, if you don't match the company's profile of desirable customers they put the price up. For a 2.5 E85 at 40-mumble years old I can get quotes of up to £2k. Top of the pile is a far more reasonable £180-ish tho.

We have been with LV a few years now. Found them to be very well priced. They all seem to take advantage of existing customer apathy though. So I would definitely say spend and hour on the net.

Try SAGA. I locked in for 3 years at £240pa. Fully comp - legal cover - £100 excess - protected NCD - 8000 miles per year.

My wife’s 22 plate X2 MESH 2.5e £190pa on same 3 year deal. Same cover level plus business miles as well!

Cant fault SAGA and you can talk to someone quickly if needed as well as manage online.

It's amazing to see how different premiums can be for different people (with the same risk on the face of it). Small differences in circumstances can be huge when it comes to dosh.

My insurance for all my cars is dirt cheap (highest is £260 a year), but all do include the wife on them which I know reduces premiums (if only they saw how she drives)!

Had one quote from SAGA in the past, lets just say I wouldn’t waste my time on them again.

I was with Saga on my old Zed at £250 a year as they matched my no claims - went up to over £450 the following year so switched to Direct line and they were round £220.

55 year ole fart with full no claims - kept off road in a rural area, my M4 is only £300 a year so £275 is way over priced

I'm surprised people don't use a comparison site as a matter of course each year.

Its always worth an hour on the comparison sites every year at renewal time. In addition it's worth playing around with the information you input.

Putting a spouse on always reduces costs, why I don't know as mine never drives, adjust your employment can also effect the cost and knocking off a 1k miles and not including use for business can also effect the outcome.

    Good hunting

Just had this conversation on another forum.
I bought car insurance today and increasing the restricted mileage actually reduced the premium! :?
Apparently, so someone read, low mileage drivers are more likely to have accidents, maybe through lack of practice.

I also found out today that garaging a car is more expensive than keeping on a driveway; and parking on the road is cheaper still. Makes no sense to me! :?
