Just so you can see what I mean, below are a couple of extracts from the Car Vertical report.

Very strange. Their data's gone wonky somewhere.
I can assure you that I've looked into this at significant length for my own protection. I know there are various copies of the MAIFTR "Motor Insurers Anti-Fraud and Theft Register" that some of these third parties use instead. Maybe the issue is in one of those?
It'll be good to know if you ever find out or if anyone else knows.

Meanwhile get an HPI or Experian check and they will guarantee the value of the car based on their data being correct.

Yes I think you are right. I remember back a few years ago there was pretty much HPI check only, now there are so many companies offering this service you do wonder where they are pulling the data from.

I have no doubt your car is tip top, I have been reading your other thread on the Tiefgruen you have and your work looks exemplary.

Unrelated question - do you know any promo codes or discounts for that motorcheck website?

So now I’m confused having read everything… !!
The car was accident damaged as OP states, sold via copart. and repaired. A company has it listed as accident damaged, which is factually correct… other vehicle checks don’t list this so clearly don’t give potential buyers all the facts… was the car written off ??? I suppose only the person the insurance paid out to would know. The OP has been transparent throughout and I wouldn’t have an issue with this car. I would However be apprehensive about any potential resale as it’s accident history could put buyers off meaning taking a monetary hit… I really don’t know the answer here but glws OP

I think it’s simple. Condition and Category are different things.
The formal Category everyone knows and loves is what every provenance provider reports. It’s fed solely from the insurance master database MIAFTR.

A Condition report is supplementary information gathered from a number of different sources to help inform a buyer. Not all provenance providers report it as it not recognised as a formal source. In this case salvage.io which originally scrapped the data from Copart. It doesn’t include all auctions, it doesn’t include all repairs but something's better than nothing.

In this case the car is a category U. Unrecorded.
MIAFTR (national insurers database) the golden record = Cat U
HPI = Cat U
Experian = Cat U
Total CarCheck = Cat U
CarVertical is the only provenance provider with wrong data = Cat N. I’ve raised a complaint and currently trying to get through their generic customer service answers!

We all love to think we have genuine untouched cars. The reality is that a car that’s pristine rarely is.

In this instance you have full transparency. I have the photos of the car when the bumper was removed.

Fully understand the difference between category and condition but thanks anyway.
Your car has been fully paid out by an insurance company, I know what that suggests to me regardless of ‘category’.
I’ll give an example; the infamous Renaultsport Clio 182 Trophy, no. 459 ( it well worth a read). This car has a past, not the same as yours but a past… that isn’t recorded as a category…. But, it’s condition and history have question marks over it and as such sold on CC once the history was highlighted, sold for 2/3’s the consensus value at that time.
Your car, lovely as is has questionable history regardless of how you float it and minimise by questioning other cars that may or may not have ‘history’
I’ll ask a simple question…. Your car v one of similar spec, condition, age and price…What car sells ???
Your car has a history through forums like this which will follow it much like the infamous Clio 459.

So what are you confused about??

The car has no questionable history. Is all there in black and white. Comparible cars +/- 5k miles are currently listed between £13-15k.

What’s your problem?

It’s not aggression. It’s simply challenging your opinion with facts. If you don’t want to buy it.. cool.. move on.

There’s no need to cast fear and doubt on a topic that you’re clearly not interested in.

Is it not ?? Ok

Being a forum it invites and thrives on multiple users input and I’m pretty sure everyone who’s commented on your threat isn’t interested in buying said car…. Or it would be sold. So it is what it is.

As said earlier ,car looks lovely, you seem genuine and honest and I wish you well with sale but yip, she’s not for me.
