Soft top issue

Post by Stanat43 » Tue May 09, 2023 3:36 pm

Good afternoon all.
Finally bought my dream car. Z4, driving like a dream however I’ve encountered an issue with the soft top.
Goes up and down without problems. However when down the red warning light continues to flash and side windows don’t move back up as o believe they should.
Q: is there a straightforward fix for this issue?
Cheers

Hi and welcome to the forum! There are way more knowledgeable members who’ll chime in with diagnostics and more, but I’ll start with a few simple ones first: When opening the roof, after the roof is down, did you keep pressing the open button for five more seconds? And when the roof is up, tried doing a window reset?

Hi Steve

Check that the roof is going all the way down- it may be fouling on the soft top catch and therefore not making a connection with the hall sensor?

Try giving it a push with your hand to see if it latches into place

Many thanks for this advice,I’ll give it a go.

Quick query: what’s a window reset, I can’t find details in the ( limited) information that came with the car?

Cheers all,
Steve

If the windows drop a few mm when you open the door you should be ok.
If not then the one that's always worked for is:
1. Sit in the drivers seat, windows, roof and doors closed. Ignition on.
2. Hold the switch to wind the drivers window all the way down and when it reaches the bottom release and reselect the down switch 4 times within 10 seconds. You may hear faint clicks in the door.
3. Hold the switch to wind the drivers window all the way up and when it reaches the top release and reselect the up switch 4 times within 10 seconds. You may hear faint clicks in the door.
4. Open the drivers door and you should see the window drop a little.
5. Close the door and it should go back up a little.
6. Check the one touch open and close works.
7. Repeat on the passenger window (you can still do this from the switch on the drivers door)
8. NB. Early models do not all seem to have one touch close on the passenger window, but it should go down one touch.

Always happy to help if I can.
