Overcooling question
That's why I got bimmerlink so I can use it away from home etc.
I like to think I'm an optimist.

Overcooling question
It looks like it could indeed be the cooling fan.
I decided to check the water pump was working ok and it's pumping nice and freely with a consistent stream.
Had a general nose around the fan and spotted that there was no cover over the electronics on the back of the fan, looking a bit further, the cover was lying at the bottom of the engine next to the flywheel pulley! Goodness knows how that's happened, think I'll replace the fan first of all.
See image below, weird.
Hopefully that will be the fix? Just need to work out how to remove the fan housing now

Ah. When I mentioned the water pump earlier I meant that it's the same setup as the fan rather than being the cause of the problem. The water pump will throw its own codes when it starts dying.

Dammit. I was within 4 days of the full 30-day bonus yesterday and forgot to click through. Second time I've got that close.

Yes, spotted it thanks.
I've ordered the fan and the coolant temp sensor JIC.
They recommended the Abakus one as the OE replacement, also ordered the Febi coolant sensor, £197 in total, a lot cheaper than the Eurocarparts £420 for the fan!

Just take it to a dealer, they can deep dive the code for you for a less than buying INSTA for example and they know how to use it correctly (not including BMW main stealers in that statement lol). Itll take a short time and the answer will be in your hand as well as some advice for free I am sure... Bite the Bullet

Overcooling question
That cover has a rub mark on it as though the belt has touched it. Might be worth checking the belt is ok as well, it may have been damaged by the cover or it may have a piece hanging off that has 'whipped' the cover off...Owdgit wrote: ↑Wed May 10, 2023 7:04 pm It looks like it could indeed be the cooling fan.

Thanks Mark, the belt is all good, I've thoroughly checked it.
The mark is where it was against the bottom pulley, it actually looks worse on the image than it is, it's only slight.
I'm thinking the cover has come unbonded when the fan has been running full pelt for some time and it's got hot enough to loosen the bonding material causing it to fall off.
I've already ordered the replacement fan and a temp switch.
Once back together I'll see how it goes.
This is how the removed fan looks

New fan & temp switch fitted, errors cleared and no longer appear, just need to get it out on the road to try it now.
