I have retired 3 times now and gone back to work.

Currently working from home for the NHS doing about 10 hrs a week on average and at my own pace so it's just like retirement really. Can't do more hours or will get hit by 40% tax.

The only downside with retirement is when all these people are having / looking forward to a bank holiday or getting paid double time, they are meaningless

I am sure you will manage that disappointment.

I still have to be aware of the bank holidays, but only because we live in Cornwall and other people seem to think they should come down this way at such times. Happily it is only a few days a year.

indeed, not sure what the guy does but intimating a just under 50k salary for a 10 hour week does make you wonder wtf is going on in the nhs

Congratulations though Tim on the retirement, hope you have many happy and healthy years ahead of you to enjoy.. still not sure when i will go for it, I still start climbing the walls 10 days into 2 weeks off

Many thanks, I was the opposite, was climbing the walls during working hours the stress, messing about training new recruits up for them only to leave after 6 months and starting all over again when I starting clock watching from lunch until knocking off time was the curtain call to say time to go

Guessing not many surgeons, doctors or nurses work from home!
TBF I am guessing that is a 'top up' of the (no doubt) final salary pension.
Even at £30 an hour, that would pay for multiple nurses' payrises a week.

Same as you Steve, I'd go mad at home all the time doing the garden....not that I can afford to retire... Ill keep going until I drop and they find me half in half out of a tub of dry ice....

Retirement not for me either, enjoy inventing and selling those too much

I always intended to retire early but had the option to drop down to 3 days a week at 60, finally retired at 64.

I got headhunted 18 months later and started as a consultant one day a week (at an insane hourly rate), that lasted 4 years and also kept me active and motivated. Nowadays I keep busy and active just fixing up our old Victorian house and garden and running the two holiday rental cottages that we have in Norfolk, with occasional breaks in UK and abroad.

Thanks John. It's a funny old word retirement, I think if you do a line a work or self employed where you love the work you do or almost see it as a hobby then a bonus and retirement as such is perhaps something that wouldn't be in their vocabulary or less likely to see it as that maybe
