Thanks everyone for your thoughts. Just to pull it back to part of my original post - are there any areas on the car which are particularly susceptible to stone chips.

Front is the obvious answer. However, I would say if you decide to go down the ppf route, apply it to the whole car. For whatever reason, I even have stone chip on my rear wheel arch and boot lid.
Based on the quote I got when I took delivery of my car, the price of full car ppf is about 1/3-1/2 more than front only. Since it's already quite expensive even for front only ppf, I don't mind spend the extra to have full protection if I decide to spend the money. But obviously, I end up decided not to spend the money at all on ppf :tumbleweed:

The stone chip cost of respray on my Porsche was £10k (after the NC500 run - never again).

The PPF was a no brainer after that, I have not had a stone chip since.

I’d say 2 NC500 runs are probably responsible for 80%+ of mine, but it was a blast :driving:

Ive had my M40i for about 12 months now, and in that time it has picked up a couple of small chips to the front end..
When i got it it had been repainted at the front due to stone chips, by the local dealer, and a great match it was, as its Frozen Orange..

In the meantime i have enquired about PPF-ing the car, and got a quote of £1800 to do, the full front ie to the back of the front wings, bonnet, front bumper, headlights, down the side skirts and around the bottom of the back bumper. And the mirrors. This was in Xpel ppf matt coating.

Is this a decent price as ive never dealt with ppf before.

I got similar quote when I took delivery of my car. Back then, if I decided to go down the ppf route, I would do the full coverage than just front.

    Hi BigDave,

Did you get the PPF on yours as looking to do this on my First Edition as well?

    Hi Squid.
Yes i have had my car done with the stealth ppf, front and side sills only,

    BUT,,

there is a noticeable difference in the texture.

Check the pics and youl poss see what i mean..

The car, ie BMW paint is more a satin finish than a pure matt finish, and the Stealth Xpel is a pure matt finish. So im just inquiring about booking it in to do the rest of the car....
Itl cost me more but at least the full car will be protected, and itl all be the same texture.

This may sound like a stupid question but for a Frozen paint, what "polish" wax or ceramic do you use to maintain the frozen finish?

    Nanu.

I use a specific Matt cleaner, Nanolex , and Dr Beaslys products...

The car has always been the same texture, so maybe the previous owner used the wrong stuff, but i suspect its just the difference in textures anyway...

When I got the car, I looked into the care of Frozen paint before purchasing it... :driving:

To be honest, its THE easiest car I've ever owned to keep clean. Just a quick spritz over with the Nanolex and its done, or if the car is really filthy then it gets washed with Autoglym pure I think its called. no extra silicones, or waxes in it...

    Hi Dave,

Have you got a price to do the whole car? I enquired with my local detailer and he came back with £6k! Who are you using?

    Hi Squid.
Yes the quote I had was £4K for the whole car..

I'm using a company call Wraps and Tints in Preston, Lancashire to do the job...

    £6K sounds steep to me...

I thought £4k was steep, but after seeing how long it takes and what's involved I now understand the cost...

Don't just get anybody to fit it, as it looks a specialist job. I watched them doing a Ferrari whilst I was collecting my car...
